Ok so it's been 24 hours since HTC unveiled the HTC Touch (or as we all knew it, the HTC Elf). Am I impressed with it?

Yes and no. I can't decide whether I could justify buying one. But here are the pro's and cons from my point of view...

Good points:

• Its SLIM! A mere 14mm!
• It looks amazing! Personally I think it looks über sexy in black And that bezel-less design really is a thing of beauty (and it'll make it easier to wipe all those grubby fingerprints off it!)
• The TouchFLO UI looks amazing. Now, I'm sure a great many of you will now be saying, "They taken that off the iPhone!". Be that as it may, it still rocks, I like the way you can easily access all the key features of your PPC with a few simple gestures and the scrolling mechanism.

Bad Points:

• The same old 128MB ROM, 64MB RAM and TI OMAP 850 @ 201 MHz setup. Ok, as so the device hasn't got 3G i can understand the TI OMAP processor for better battery life etc. But it would've been nice to see an increase in both RAM and ROM (like the Kaiser). Also, how well will it cope with that fancy TouchFLO UI?
• No 3G. For me, 3G is a must now after my Hermes. The Elf has EDGE, but here in the UK, EDGE doesn't have sufficient coverage for it to be truly effective so it's a bit pointless for me.
• The fact that its bound to be a super-conducting fingerprint magnet and that I'll never EVER stop cleaning it!

I'll leave stuff like hardware buttons out of this list until I manage to get my hands on one.

My overall thoughts? It's innovative and a giant leap forward for PPCs in terms of usability, but it's not quite enough HTC. There are only so many devices you can make without 3G and based around the TI OMAP setup, and, good as it may be, fancy UI or not, this PPC just won't do it for the power PPC users out there.
