Well, as I am writing this I have concluded my first week at university! And I can honestly say it has been rather good I did of course join BOTH mixed and mens hockey teams, first training session monday Phil
Finally! After months of inactivity I got the urge to blog again. I'm not going to make excuses for the lack of bloggage, I just couldn't be arsed? Ok? Well what can I write about? TBH not alot interesting has happened since I stopped blogging, just getting ready to go study Electronic + Electrical Engineering at the University of Leicester Phil
Finally! A new HTC Hermes radio RADIO VERSION: 1.43.00.00 HTC_BOOT: 1.0108 QC_BOOT: 1.0035 KMRX: 3.2.7020 DATE1: 31/Oct/2006 DATE2: 17/Aug/2006 JNAND: 07.00.13 02/Nov/2006 Haven't had it long enough on my device to see any noticeable impact yet but I'll write about how it goes later on in the week For those interested, it can be found HERE. As always, I'd recommend you have Hard-SPL installed on your device prior to flashing, also be warned, radio flashing (and corrupting the radio bootloader) is one of the few things that can STILL brick your device even with Hard-SPL installed. Happy flashing Phil
I'd been toying with the idea of resizing my XP partition and creating a 20GB partition for Windows Vista for quite some time now, so today I though, lets just resize my XP partition for the fun of it. Was I ever going to regret it... Followed a guide I found on the internet to the letter, ran 'chkdsk /f' to check my drive before resizing the partition. Downloaded and burnt G-Parted (a free linux-based LiveCD which allows for the management of disk partitions). Resized my XP partition to 129GB and created a new NTFS partition in the Unallocated space that was left over. Reboot... Hangs on 'Verifying DMI Pool Data...' with random squares of colour dotting the screen... Hard drive refuses to boot... CRAP! Frantically, I try the Windows Vista DVD to repair my NTFS partition boot sector and then the hard drives mater boot record. No dice. However, I could still access all the data on my disk so it wasn't QUITE as bad as it could've been... Secondly, I tried downloading a bootable ISO of the Windows XP recovery console, Tried again to fix the Boot Sector and MBR. No dice. It said it couldn't write a new boot sector. Thirdly, I rode my bike 3 miles to get my hand on a Windows XP Professional Install CD to try the Recovery Console on that. While this time it actually SAID it had written a new boot sector, it still wasn't fixed. When I thought all hope had faded, Alex (Nedge2k) finally came to my rescue So, what's the moral of this story? NEVER fiddle with your disk partitions unless you either have a complete disk backup or a Paragon Partition Manager Recovery Disk Also, again a HUGE(that huge enough you reckon? Phil
Today has been a very busy day, as you've probably guessed from the title. Firstly, I had my Maths Core 3 exam today. Wasn't too bad, wasn't too good, luckily I re-taught myself logarithms an hour before going, otherwise I would've been totally screwed Secondly, I've just finished applying for student accommodation at the University of Bath, where I will hopefully be going (depends on A-Level results of course) to study Electronic Engineering for 4 years. Kudos to monolithix and Alex (nedge2k) for their input there Thirdly, Black Shadow (Black 4.0) has bee released. All in all, one of Jasjamming's better ROMs. First Impressions: The Good:
The Bad: The isn't anything wrong (technically) with the ROM as far as I can tell so far The Ugly:
I've removed the 4winmobile splash screen from the NBH flashing file myself and will be replacing the welcomehead.96.png tomorrow. That aside, I'd go as far as to say that it's the best ROM i've put on my Hermes so far Phil
Ok, so I admit I have no idea what I'm going to write about tonight. Maybe I could start off that I have sunburn on the top of my head (how, I do not know). Or perhaps debate the virtues of Windows Mobile VS Symbian, or express my frustration that it's another 6 days until the next Doctor Who episode. Etc. Hopefully the next few days will yield something interesting that I can write about. Windows Mobile Black Shadow (IV) should be release tomorrow so I can write about my first impressions of the ROM, which is based on the official HTC WM6 release for Hermes. Of course that presents me with having to backup/restore all my data then reinstall all my programs and reconfigure the lot... Grrrrr.... If only Active Sync/WMDC had some sort of integrated backup system... Phil
Welcome to the FIFTH entry into my blog Anyway, having just watched the Doctor Who episode 'Blink' TWICE (watched it once while my mother cut my hair but didn't hear half of it so I watched it again later on, recorded on one of those TV recordy things). My thoughts? Good episode, possibly one of the scariest, well, wouldn't call it scary, more like unexpected shocks, Doctor Who episodes I've seen. Looking forward to the next episode and the return of Captian Jack Harkness Can't wait Phil
Being as I had no exams today I had the whole day to myself, which was, quite frankly, boring. At least with an exam or two thrown in I have SOME kind of structure to my day. Today consisted of waking up at circa 11:00 and migrating downstairs for brunch at around 12:00. Pretty bad I know Anyway, during the afternoon I stumbled accross the following website: http://www.dropline.net/cats/ It's basically a website with a huge amount of captioned pictures of cats which, personally, I find highly amusing ![]() Enjoy Phil
After 3 hours of Maths exams I've come to the conclusion that maths (pure maths this is) is an extremely dull subject most of the time (albeit a necessary one). Only when you actually apply it to stuff is it any fun, this is probably one of the reasons why I opted for both mechanics modules. It's also probably why I like physics so much, it's maths with purpose! And the amount of useful stuff you can work out with it is amazing On another note, I've found an ingenious method to keep myself from losing my stylus's (styli?), it consists of sticking a huge ball of blue-tack to the tower of draws on my desk and then pushing the stylus's into it. It works surprisingly well actually. They don't even get tiny bits of blue-tac stuck in the groves! Phil
![]() Yes and no. I can't decide whether I could justify buying one. But here are the pro's and cons from my point of view... Good points:
My overall thoughts? It's innovative and a giant leap forward for PPCs in terms of usability, but it's not quite enough HTC. There are only so many devices you can make without 3G and based around the TI OMAP setup, and, good as it may be, fancy UI or not, this PPC just won't do it for the power PPC users out there. This isn't intended to be a review, just a summary of my thoughts on the most important aspects of this device Phil |
