Hi there..Its really fascinating what u did..well i have a question to u...i am quite a duh about electronics and what i understood from the pics that there is alittle part on the hinge that hides some important components..the thing is off late this particular little lid like part has been making an annoying creaking sound whenever my hands touch it,is there any way that it can be fixed without opening the entire thingie up??thanx a lot and keep up the amazing work .

My mpx200 started having earpiece problems -- no sound. I finally took mine aprart and as you can see below, the ribbon cable has been worned through -- that part that is pinched in the hinge.
Any way to get mortorola or someone to sell me a new ribbon cable?

Ok one post at a time
 Voit, Off hand I am not sure without taking the phone apart yet again but I would say it would more likely be earthing tabs on the headset jack socket.death_me, There is no easy way to work on the hinge assembly and it is very hard to take apart. LJWhorfin, Unfortunately I do not know of anywhere to get a ribbon cable from and Motorola do not sell spare parts on component level. -------------------- Smartphone and PocketPC History

If I put it in the two holes facing each other, I can press a little, but then the plastic gets all deformed and I'm too scared to press harder. Could someone please explain in detail how to unclip the body? |

It's not the antenna that is responsible for the network bands it's the components they use on the circuitboard.
Some people claim that the dualband AT&T MPX200 can be made tri-band but I have yet to see actual proof of this. It was believed that some of the original AT&T MPX200 phones were tri-band as a mistake in the initial supply. -------------------- Smartphone and PocketPC History

The chip is on the main board but I am not 100% sure which one it is from memory.

My phone had the "won't charge any more" problem, and I managed to fix it. Thanks, awarner!
But I have a little problem. I don't know if this happens because I've stripped my mpx, but now I'm having this: at random times the main screen goes off and also the keyboard gets locked. Like the phone's flip (the display) was closed down, although it was not. I guess it might be the case that the sensor which is responsible for determining whether the phone is closed or not went wrong. Can it be the magnet? And where can I find it exactly? In some of the posts I found out that it was a yellow little magnet. However, I still haven't managed to find that. Where should I look for it? If its not faulty, what could have gone wrong? Now you can see the SD card socket [attachment=18926:attachment] After removing the screen connector strip, can be lifted out of the way to expose the Keypad buttons and keypad membrane side of the circuitboard. You can also see the internal battery. [attachment=18927:attachment] [attachment=18928:attachment] The metal keypad membrane support plate can be carefully lifted to show the components underneath. [attachment=18929:attachment] This next part I do not recommend anyone to try unless you want to risk destroying the keypad. I removed the membrane from the backing plate and then proceded to seperate the top memberane from the circuitboard. As you can see this is the matix layout of the keypad. [attachment=18930:attachment] [attachment=18931:attachment] I went this far in my testing to find the actual cause of the DownLeft problem on the main controller. Now to move on to the Flip section of the phone. On the display side there are four rubber plugs, remove these and then the T5 Tork srews underneath them. Now the hard part, there are two clips either side of the case which have to be lifted very carefully with a small thin blade. You have to be carefull otherwise you will mark the case as the top cover is plastic. [attachment=18932:attachment] Once you have done this on the hinge is another clip, lift the cover from the top (speaker end) and carefully slide the cover towards the hinge. Failure to do this will result in the clip being broken off. You can also see in this picture the vibrate motor and the magnet used for activating the main screen on and off. [attachment=18933:attachment] Once you have the cover removed unclip the connector cable then you can lift out the display circuitry. Note in the two pictures the earpiece speaker and hands free speaker are one component mounted back to back. [attachment=18934:attachment] [attachment=18935:attachment] That is awesome... |

Your problem is probably down to the fact the MPX200 has never been a good phone for reception.
The antenna is located on the base of the phone in a void below the hinge. There is not really anything you can do to improve reception, as changing the properties of the antenna can have adverse effects and can damage the phone unless you know what you are doing. -------------------- Smartphone and PocketPC History
