Hi,

I bought a MPx220 a couple of days ago and had it unlocked. I'm in Europe so I suppose I have the generic ROM?
My phone's ROM update versions:

Operator: 0.10.6050.0
Manufacturer: 1.360.0.0
Microsoft: 4.21.15051.0
Language: 0.240.16.0

I followed all the instructions to update the ROM but in the end it said there are no new updates for my phone!
Why is that?

I really wanted to know if the 1.43 ROM had portuguese language sad.gif

Should I try the offline updater? I don't know where to get the ROM though dry.gif

Yo there!! after a lot of help from RPSGC (member) and also from this site:
http://motorola.mpx220.tripod.com/index.html
I've been able to update my ROM to 1.49!! But who the heck said it will be faster?? It's slow as F*&^ and my SMS service is a bit dodgy too.....it's not calculating correctly the amount of characters + the amount of messages (at the top corner)!! What happened??

Have you tried 1.47 then?
I also noticed 1.49 was slow.. maybe not as slow as yours but slow.

I'll try the 1.47!! Hope it works fine!!

I was suggested the Asian ROM 3.something!! But I'd have to patch it up for the Chinese fonts.....and I don't think I'll manage that!! hehe

That's just how things are... you can install WM5 on the 200 but not on the 220. That sucks a lot sad.gif And I really wanted WM5 because it has Portuguese and WM2003 doesn't dry.gif

It's not only cause of the language - it's fantastic - believe me I saw it!! It's like a PDA - even though on the MPx200 it ran a bit slow!! It requires so much memory that the 30MB system memory is not enough so it takes half of the installation on the system and the rest on the SD card!!

I have used for a while a WM5 loaded mpx200. Believe me the experience is not that pleasant. OK, nicer GUI different menus etc.. but:

1. slower system
2. half system in SD -> when u accidentaly remove sd = crash
3. unsupported - beta version of windows with probably bugs in it
4. you get several errors either during calls or in whatever time, mostly due to hardware & software incompatibility.

I now have the mpx200, mpx220, i-mate sp5.. sp5 owns them all!

Yeah - my friend experienced the same problems with WM5!! I think they're not that compatible after all huh!!

As to the 1.53 Generic ROM - There is no such thing as a 1.53 - it's actually a 3.53 Asian ROM - on Surreals they just wrote it down incorrectly - now they've fixed it!!

Why can't they issue a ROM with nice fonts but still using Media Player 10!?!? AND UNBRANDED!! smile.gif
I think I'm asking too much though!!

Does anyone know where to download the update tool, online or offline. I have a 1st gen MPX220 and I just bought a black one unlocked off of ebay and it is apparently the UK version because it was set to london. I used to have the update tool but motorola disabled it. Since I didn't buy it off cingular or any carrier how Do i update to the newest firmware and also will that affect that it is unlocked? Also, it is unlocked but even with a cingular SIM or ATT SIM it says no service. Did I get a Bum Phone?

I am getting fairly pissed off about it because i have had the worst support with these phones from ATT where I got the first one and also from motorola, since they disabled the tool that I used to update previously
