Slightly OT, but given the new tariffs and all... are there any plans to invite other network operators to these meets in future?

Not that I want a bright pink and grey T-Mobile phone, but I can't see myself going back to Orange any time soon.

Just a thought

Hmm, a real device to tweak, (while keeping a duplicate next to it to repair with!) - anyone think of more stuff to tweak the 'Special' with.. (i'm thinking more whiteness!!)

Shame RJHTML still isn't WM5 compatible. Could have alot of fun with that wink.gif

Difficult when its held at Oranges' offices! Certainly something to consider in the future though...

Also i'd just like to further push that, free handsets aside, Orange went all-out for this event. Even without the freebies it was the *best* event ever, great demos, great crowd, and great handsets on display. Orange have outdone themselves preparing this for us and then topped it off with the gift at the end! Thanks Orange!

Just like to echo what Mono said.
Orange did a great job.

Many thanks.

I still firmly believe Orange are the best network in the UK by far. Although I'm now with T-Mobile the only reason I left was because the tarrifs at the time didn't suit me and the data was too expensive. If they change this over the next year then I'll happily return.

I have a feeling a lot of people are going to book next year hoping they will get a free phone and will be disappointed when they don't
This was a one off and I doubt if anything like it will be repeated. By all means book for a great event but don't expect a free phone!

Device(s): Vario II On T-Mobile

This sweet C600 has reopened the whole debate for me: pocketpc or smartphone?
I bought a Orange PAYG and topped it up with £10 - after deserting for T-mobile as most of us did, I am rediscovering Orange and... how sweet this C600 is..!

After seeing the Hermes last saturday, I thought I would definitely upgrade my Wizard with one of these. But after two days of playing with the C600 and browsing the web with it, I am really impressed. I like how web pages are displayed - for some reasons, it's got a better screen than the larger Wizard. MoDaCo's web pages load well and are displayed perfectly well on the C600... and I am now very confused as to what to do next unsure.gif

My last time with orange was two or three years ago when I had the MPx220, a great device. But I was too much used to big, PDA-like screens, and I subsequently went for the O2 XdaIIs, then for the Wizard on T.

I know I'll need to used Word and Excel mobile when I commute, so the Hermes/TyTN will be my next device, but I am really impressed with the C600.

Do you prefer smartphones or Pocketpcs?

By the way I am very proud to be part of the winning team for the pub quizz. Four of us had a Wizard (the most popular device for MoDaCo users?), which made me think I was not wrong in going for it..!

Device(s): Vario II On T-Mobile

By the way, I talked to the Orange guy at the event (Hanif?) and I asked him about what he thought of T's web'nwalk offering. He said T was loosing money by doing so as the £7.50 fee does not pay for network maintenance and upgrade. He acknowledged that Orange's data prices were off-putting and he said they were looking at getting the balance right between affordability and business sense.

Orange will revamp its tariffs soon. When they do revamp their data tariffs, don't expect a all-you-can-eat bundle for as low as £7.50 sad.gif - hopefully they will make it affordable and attractive.

Maybe we can help them reach attractive conclusions:

How much would you be willing to pay for an all-you-can-eat bundle on top of the voice plan?
And how much would you be willing to pay for a, say 50MB monthly allowance? 100MB?

As far as I am concerned, given current T-Mobile's offerings which set the standards, I would pay:
up to £11 for an all-you-can-eat stuff
and no more than £7 for 100MB and £5 for 50MB

What about you guyz?

to the orange guys: we're providing you with invaluable market research here, so maybe you could give us a M3100 as a thankyou!

lol biggrin.gif

I think Orange has been a key supporter of Windows Mobile from the start. By Orange doing this for its hardcore fans really shows their support and dedication to the Windows Mobile platform.

Despite the free phone, the event was fantastic by itself and we have Chris to thank for that. Orange, was a fantastic host and I really hope MoDaCo attendees respect them on this and support Orange by putting a Orange SIM in your handset. If you don't have one- get a free one

I have an O Sim in my C600 - that's not to say I won't get it unlocked but you're rght - a great free gift does deserve some loyalty.

As to data....

When I first got my O2 Exec of eBay I used it on 3 then orange and got 3 months free data usage. I was using, I think IIRC 50 - 70Mb per month and what I wanted was for someone to do 100Mb for 10 squid - a pipe dream!

Then my 3 months run out and I had to turn data off - it felt like my right arm had been cut off - it' what the Universal is made for.

Then T gave us unlimited data for £7.50, if I believed in a god/s he/they would be getting my thanks - as it is they are reserved for T-Mob - despite people telling us of the terrible restrictions wink.gif

My first month I used 85Mb then they stopped telling us how much we're using - I have no doubt I'm using 2-300Mb + and it's only likely to go up! When you have unlimited data you don't think about using it, I download podcasts every day and all sorts of stuff without thinking, a cap would limit my experience.

I got 25% off my plan and data so pay £31.88 for Flext 35 ad unlimited data.

Am I happy?

You bet I am wink.gif

I agree - and it is a great opportunity for Orange the regain the confidence of its ex-fans who have churned for more attractive data tariffs..!
Hope they get it right - thanks Orange, I'm using a PAYG orange sim card in my C600...

Yeah that would be good... that should bring in more people attending.

I think Paul only stayed with Orange is because Orange are much better with events and they have a good working contact with Paul.

well, it's all down to the competitive environment here.... phones are more subsidised by network operators here in the UK than they are in the rest of Europe.

I got my Wizard/Vario free when it was released by T-Mobile last October on a £30 a month contract over 18 month including 40MB monthly allowance, which was discounted by 50% (line rental) over 9 month..!
Annual cost of running the contract, including handset cost is 9 x £30 + 9 x £15 = £400 + £0 for the handset = £400 including 200 minutes a month + 40MB monthly data allowance (thrown into the contract for free as part of the original W'nW 200 tariff).

The Wizard itself retailed at £450+ without a contract. Are we getting ripped-off? I am not sure... I can't even see where and when T-Mobile has managed to recover the cost of my being a customer..!

Bulk buying would usually mean cheaper price per phone.
