Don't know if anyone knew this (cba reading it all wink.gif) but you can exchange contacts like this. Go to the qr-code creator and slap in this:

CODE
BEGIN:VCARD
N;CHARSET=UTF-8:Joe Bloggs
TEL;CHARSET=UTF-8:01234 567890
EMAIL;CHARSET=UTF-8:joebloggs@bloggs.com
END:VCARD

...for example, and smartphones ask you to save to contacts when you scan it biggrin.gif

This opens up so many possibilities to my eye. Imagine having a single buisness card; clients just snap it with their camera phone and your details are automatically saved in their contacts. Ingenious tbh, every camera phone should support this.

Thing is, it's a security nightmare...

Pretty useless for me now, the SP3i have a fixed focus, can't scan the code found in CD/DVD from japan...

You dont actually take a picture - when it recognises the barcode it translates it automatically

You could try "waving" your phone (slowly) around the picture, sometimes looking straight on doesn't work and you dont HAVE to have the whole barcode in the target area for it to work.

OIC blush.gif Thanks for the tip - just wish it actually worked!!! I managed to get the 818Pro version installed on my M5000 (Universal), but no amount of waving will get it to scan the image; I tried generating some of my own from the site and also tried with Paul's avatar, but got nothing for my troubles (besides, the image was rotated, so it was a bit like "The Golden Shot" (one for the real oldies among us!) to get it to line up) sad.gif
Presumably, the sound in the install directory is played when the program successfully captures the image??

In desperation, I emailed the people at Quickmark and asked if/when there would be a version for the Dopod 900/Universal - will post later if they get back to me.

Cheers, Mark.

You have to experiment a bit to get it work. I also had to do that on my german phone. smile.gif

For those still with the C500 [that's me too], the Dopod 585 version is functional. Not sure what is missing, but it reads the barcodes. I needed to rename the language file.

Great li'l tool with loads of possibilities. I particularly like the t-shirt and business card ideas banded around in here.

The 818 Pro works like a dream on my O2 XDA Mini S.

I've seen these Q-marks on a few things, this could be a good marketing gimic, better than the BT posters that are springing up around London.
The V-card idea is good.

I'd like to see an app that could read normal barcodes.

Actually, i'd like a .net CF component that could read barcodes. A much easier way to manage the shopping list methinks with that tongue.gif

There are apps for some phones and PCs that let you read a UPC barcode with a camera.

a .NET component would be GREAT as you could use it for so many applications.

One that I remember is a PC program that inventories books, movies, video games by scanning the UPC (or manually adding the ISBN number) then adding all of the data into a database (title, author, actors, console, etc) and also adds a photo of the product so it looks as if it were sitting on a shelf.

So you would also need a good DB to back up the functionality.

That would be cool!

Even if that's not possible, a client app that effectively calls that website then extracts the image would definitely be feasible.
