But that wouldn't cover texting and if you ban texting as well it wouldn't cover MMS etc.... Well, the "for purposes of communication" will cover it. I was just giving an example of less broader term. But obviously the main intent is to prevent distraction of driver. Since *any* activity can be pulled under "distraction", GPS use can be easely made illegal too, albeit absurd. This post has been edited by Ingvarr: Jul 18 2008, 07:10 |

Then you would get some idiot playing games on their phone...
But reading the translation QUOTE f the drivers for the device aufnehme or hold it against infringes Section 23 para 1 of a highway code.or hold it against infringes Section 23 para 1 of a highway code. and babel fish translates aufnehme at 'take up' it seems that German law precludes only holding or programming the pone and not just using it pre programmed. Unless I am mistaken. Which I frequently am... -------------------- He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. He who doesn't ask a question remains foolish forever.

The text at heise says you are not allowed to manipulate anything at the phone during driving your car.
This means (also written at heise and as I know those german rules (I am swiss but travelling often in Germany)) - Use the keypad to enter a number to call - Hold the phone to your ear (allowed using headset of course, but not the phone itself) - Write a SMS - Use any application, while "use" means that you program your navi or use the cam or play a game.... It IS allowed to be at a parking place, enter the destionation adress, begin to drive then following the the lovely voice So no worry about that message! Let ur simcard in the phone, do your (headset!) calls and follow the woman Then you would get some idiot playing games on their phone...

You can dial a number if it's in a car holder and make the call through a handsfree unit. The same applies here. Compare it to a built in radio.

This may be one of the reasons that iGO2006 and iGO8 have an optional 'Safety Mode' which renders the device unresponsive to any input unless the vehicle is stationary.
