 beginner question, unlock the phone to install programs

hello i'm new of this forum!!
i searched around and found that if I want to install any programs I have to unlock my smartphone (samsung i 320).
where i can find a simple guide step by step to unlock my phone? because i searched a lot but i didn't find a definitive guide for my phone... please if someone wants to help me i'll have the best new year i want to do it to install a java machine... but i don't know very well how to do it also!!! ehehe i'm a newie i know!!! please help!!!
