Device(s): Asus EEE 1gb ddr2 (XP)

Has anyone been able to install a 2gb DIMM of DDR2 in their Asus Eee? I have read specs saying the Eee is limited to 1gb of DDR2, but have read about people buying 2gb DDR2 sticks for their Eee's. Ram prices are pretty low and xp could always use a little boost. tongue.gif Thanks in advance!

The way I understand it, the kernel in the default xandros install only supports 1GB. For 2GB support, you could either change the OS / distro, or recompile the kernel.

Thanks so much Paul. I only hope that someone would love to run 2gb DDR2 as much as I and will write up a brief "how-to". Can't wait!

Actually, I was thinking the 2gb of ddr2 could best be used for Win XP. What do you think? But if all else fails...then yes, it would be great for xandros as well.

Oh yeah, for XP that'll be ideal.

i can confirm that the Eee will only take up to 1gb even if you shove a 2gb stick. you will need to recompile the kernel or switch to XP. (which all of my coworkers are urging me to do) my 2gigs are not being used to its full potential.

I have installed an nlited version of XP on my system. Do you think that it would be plug-in play for xp or will there be any extra work to be done? Thanks. smile.gif

XP will pick up 2GB automatically, no extra effort required.

Xandros i haven't tested, but understand it does require a kernel modification to pick up more than 1GB

Anyone brave enough to try? Has it been done elsewhere?
