Hi all,

Can anyone give me an idiots guide run down on how to access via WAP?

I used to do this via my old Motorola V50 and a specific network link in order to pick up my e-mail whilst aawy from home.

The phone I need to set this up on is the E100.

Looking at "Data Connections" they are currently set as follows:

Internet : Automatic
Work Connection: Pass through connection
WAP Connection: Orange Wap
Secure Wap Connection: None available.

Do I need to get the phone GPRS enabled first (if so how please) ?

It depends which network and SIM type you are trying to setup GPRS for.

You can find network settings in the GPRS settings repository smile.gif

BTW if you have a top centre G displayed on the phone it means that GPRS is enabled for that SIM

Hi Martin,

Currently I'm looking to set up primarily for Orange and then Vodaphone.

Took a look at that thread but must admit got lost.

Presumably I need the GPRS first so need to get Orange to sort this out via 156 ?

Hi millbrook

I must have been editing my last post just as you were posting your reply

If you have the top centre G displayed on the phone then GPRS is enabled for the SIM. The Orange SIM should have GPRS enabled already but I'm not sure about Vodafone.

Hi Martin.
laugh.gif

Nope, no G so guess I need to give orange a call and get the GPRS enabled.

The sim is PAYG which I've had for a while now as didn't want to be tied into a contract + in my area signal for networks varies a lot so hence having unlocked the phone.

All I need now is to find a sim doubler like I used to have on the V50 ! Make life a lot easier.

Think i will have to get my V50 back off my partner for now too just to get the wap links for my AOL account and see if they work.

AOL don't have this phone on their list for WAP so that could be the next fun as don't really want to redirect everything via Orange mail.

I've just realised that that you are using a WAP dialup on your V50 (not WAP over GPRS)

Idiots guide for For Orange CSD WAP

Programs-Settings-Data connections
Menu-Edit connections
Dial Up Connections
Menu-Add

Description Orange WAP CSD
Connects to: The Internet
Country Code: 44
Area Code: 7973
Phone Number: 100500
User Name: Orange
Password: Multimedia

Done,Done

Proxy Connections
Menu-Add

Decription: Orange proxy
Connects from: The Internet
Connects to: WAP network
Proxy (name:port): 192.168.71.35:9201
Type: WAP

Done, Done, Done

Data Connections
WAP connection: Orange WAP CSD

Goto Internet Explorer
Menu-Options-Connections
Untick 'Auto detect settings' and make Select network: WAP network

Done, Done

Now use Menu-Add favourite and add your WAP address.

Note: Proxy server- Using Port 9201 and type WAP will give you better luck accessing basic WAP sites but if you want to use you dialup to surf a bit more of the net then change proxy to 192.168.71.35:8080 and type to HTTP biggrin.gif

You would still be better off with GPRS rather than GSM dialup though, especially for accessing WAP sites, so I would still chase it up with your networks.

Thank Martin, that's brilliant.

Well, tried to go via Orange's website to set up the GPRS but low and behold, because I'm PAYG the 156 option form phone does not work.

No joy trying 450 (PAYG) number so went back to website and found a link to get GPRS settings sent to the phone.

This was sent to me after about 10 minutes BUT, still no joy so guess I have to still get orange to enable it so looks like a walk up town later to Orange shop.

Played around with some settings this morning before reading this and managed to get the "G" next to network signal so guess I'm part way there. Still coucldn't get connection though for dial up but then did pick Orange Wap not CDS Wap.

Now entered all of the above (and now also understand a lot more about the other thread - many thanks) but get "Login error".

The password part had a really long one pre-set which I wiped and set to Multimedia so has this changed ?

Also, one menu asked for Domain ??
On the other User Name and Password ?? (this does not appear to be my orange account info)

Ideas ?

Thanks.

The 'Orange WAP' is for WAP over GPRS but you will need GPRS activated for your SIM first. When GPRS is activated you will see a top centre G displayed on your phone at all times. The small top right G (next to signal bars) is displayed when you attempt a GPRS connection which will presently fail with 'unable to connect'

Either Orange CS or the Orange shop will be able to arrange the GPRS activation for you smile.gif

The above settings for WAP over the GSM network (Circuit Switched Data) should work for you. The username and password is for accessing the WAP dialup which should be Orange (capital O) and Multimedia (capital M), Domain must be blank.

You can use the auto setup WAP CSD + proxy for your phone here.
http://setup.orange.co.uk/myPhone/wap/5pho...d=130&wapId=621

It may also be easier to set Internet Explorer to the WAP network only by
unticking 'Auto detect settings' and make Select network: WAP network'. At least until you get GPRS activated

Hi Martin,

Many thanks for all of your efforts.

At least I know I am know part way there and learnt mroe about setting this phone up that I did.

Been making good use of a lot of aspects of the SPV but not this side yet.

If GPRS is enabled, then I assume that the settings are sent as a text and then should be up and running and can ignore the WAP side ??

Trawling the other thread and printing off the useful bits relating to Orange and Vodaphone and also noting the O2 stuff and T-Mobile as partner has a t-mobile card.

As to the WAP, think you may have resolved (need to try) - the Orange and Multimedia are without capitals so will try again.
