As promised here's a qucik guide to customising the icons on the C500 homescreen. I've only really played with changing the look of it - not done much on the functionality it offers. If anyone has anything to add on this subject or ways to make the changes survice a power cycle then please post them here!

WOOHOO! - great find!
You can save your modified .bmh files into StorageApplication DataHome instead of Windows and they won't get lost when you reboot! -------------------- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!

Did you see my other thread too?
clicky (Basically you can change the date format, and add up to 10 of your own web links instead of the supplied orange ones) -------------------- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!

yep mate good work - had worked those out just not put them into the little guide. Maybe i should add those details into into the guide.
@ Mods - if i do update this any chance of putting it into the articles section or even hosting the pics so it displays as in the thread rather than an attachment. |

Here are sreenshots of my modified scheme...
![]() Shown above are: 1. Custom icons (tux icons) 2. Modified date format (ddd MMM dd, yyyy) 3. Custom link? (renaming Papyrus.lnk to Calendar.lnk actually launches Papyrus program) ...and it is able to survive a reboot! 8) -------------------- Jakult everyday, everyday OK!

Hi jackofall
I can attach my own icons plus the background graphics grafix.zip) but cannot distribute the modified homescreen XML. The guide by crafty will show you how to come up with your own bmh files then the short discussions at the online article will teach you which ones to target (Opt tags, URL value data etc) Its quite easy mate. Perhaps I've got lesser XML skills than you guys have but I was able to get it (and come up with the guide) by understanding the XML file. Examine OrangeHomescreen.home.xml (from root Windows folder) and follow thru the guide. You can use your PC's notepad for that. Once satisfied with your own links, names and tags, copy the XML plus the bmh (graphic files) to \Storage\Application Data\Home , load the homescreen layout then all done! And yes, it will survive a reboot (power cycle). All for personal use only

No probs mate.
Another note... Once you have the XMLs ironed out, you should manually choose either 'tux' or 'incredi' as the background image (if you want same grafix as from the animated gifs) since the default Orange scheme will look for 'WindowsMobile.jpg' at the root Windows folder. You can easily change Background using the Camera link from the homescreen. Hope to hear from you soon. -------------------- Jakult everyday, everyday OK!

I've tried using pzee's icons from the grafix.zip file. But for some reason, it didn't show any icons at all. I tried as instructed to change home screens and then back again, but still nothing. The problem now though is that even the original files don't show properly. What could be the problem guys?
