I just stumbled upon an intersting fact...

My other half's Nokia DKE-2 USB to mini USB phone cable...

It works perfect as a data cable for the C500 - INCLUDING charging...

As I just connected it up to my phone and PC by mistake, and noticed the label on it.

And I've tested it, and it works fine for activesync, AND for charging.

Curious quirk for you...

(Amongst other phones, the DKE-2 comes included with the Nokia 7610 for example).

Hope this might be useful, and if the mods feel this could be moved to a better forum, feel free...

Well there you go

Correct, I used tha same cable today to SIM unlock my c500 and do an OTA app unlock as well. I believe that almost ANY Mini-USB sync cable will work as well as long as you install MS Active Sync first. I will be trying a cable from a 5-way card reader later today and let you know. But I believe the port and connector have been standardized.

both charging and syncing my c500 works fine using my Apacer Mega Steno (MG820) cardreaders USB-to-miniUSB too.

Are there any confirmed reports that it shouldn't work using any other usb-to-miniUSB cable? Seems to me those cables are all pretty much the same, or not?

why i posted is because whilst i can't comment on the data side of things, it WAS meant to be picky in terms of charging...

So good to know other cables work too!

The charging problem wasn't caused by the cable, it is a standard mini USB cable. the charging problem was caused by the fact that it needs a data signal on pins 4 and 5 which most chargers, and PCs without ActiveSync, don't provide.

Correct. BTW, the cable included with my Apacer USB 2.0 8-in-1 Card reader also works just fine

Like I said ANY standard mini USB cable will work, I have a few from card readers ,cameras and other phones - they all work because they are the same cable.

This cable;
http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductInfoComm.asp?ID=15076
also works 100% fine for syncing and charging, as I purchased one the other day and now I have a cable for work and one for home.
I know it is a bit expensive (well you can get it cheaper) but its a long cable and Aria are the only computer company I trust 100% now.
Also I actually went down for this;
http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductInfoComm.asp?ID=16464 which also 100% works in the c500 and is absolutly top for my mp3s and SCUMM files.
