Hello,

I am having trouble with the combination of Polstar GPS, SPV C500 and Mapopolis, but I suspect the software is irrelevant here. :?:

I enabled COM7 and performed all the remaining magic (power cycling etc.) so that COM7 remains enabled. Then I paired C500 with the GPS.

Mapopolis finds (?) the GPS on COM7 and reports 'Running/No fix'. The GPS is working as I tried it earlier with my P900 and it gives the fix and all else fine. And yes, I did un-pair it from the P900 ...

What am I doing wrong, please?

Thanks in advance,

W.

If it says running/no fix, then it is the gps that hasn't found enough sattelites yet. You should give it 5-10 minutes.

The most reliable way to do pairings seems to be to delete your current GPS pairing, and remove the checks from the COM6 and COM7 option boxes. Press "Done" and then go back and tick COM6 and COM7 again - that will initiate the pairing again.

I've only had problems when I've done the pairing and then the COM ports. Doing it this way round it has never given me any probs

Aha ... so the two are communicating then? That's a good sign. smile.gif I simply don't know the meaning of messages Mapopolis issues.

They can't be doing it so well though as the GPS has not been moved and an hour earlier it worked fine with my P900 giving it the correct position. It has also been sat there for half an hour with Mapopolis displaying the same message. sad.gif

W. (still hopeful)

Hmm wierd... Did you try to go somewhere else? Like outside if you are inside? Or try to powercycle the gps.

Hmm, I was already near going somewhere else, or even sending the two devices there.

However, after the last application of magic (half an hour later) the SPV went ping with Home Screen on telling me I have stopped in Unknown Street. Went into Mapopolis and bingo, there was a fix (!). It knows where it is. (N54.00.539 W2.47.125 8) )

There was no need to go elsewhere as it turned out. The GPS is sat on the window sill and has 12 sats in view, tracking 5 to 6, but of course it would not tell me this earlier ....

Many thanks for the helpful suggestions.

All the best from your deliriously happy newbie. biggrin.gif

While we are on the GPS subject: can anyone recommend a good GPS software? I have a bluetooth GPS and tried it with Pocket Streets 2005 but didn't like it.

CoPilot is another and it's available from the MoDaCo shop. The third is TomTom but they won't sell you the maps without a receiver - D'Oh!
