I basically just wanted to know whats the score with using the bluetooth GPS systems..

I was at the birmingham event which sparked this all off.. and what with the guy in the office having his on one of the earlier smartphones, i just want to know which standalone units i could buy that would work with my c500 if i got the tomtom software,

Im also very interested in the fact that these things, essentially can be used as a speed camera detector...

Any suggestions would be great,

is tom tom the best software ?
which gps units are compatible with the c500

im deciding to treat myself.. if i dont nobody will.

Thanks.

h.

TomTom is the best software but you cannot buy it without the GPS unit so you do not need to look for a GPS unit if you go this route.
You can buy CoPilot without GPS but the price difference works out similar after you have bought a standalone GPS unit for around £100.
There are other GPS apps around but the two above are the only ones I have used myself.

I've used Mapopolis and TomTom, and I'd agree with awarner - TomTom wins, although is seems to lack some of the basic stuff that Mapo does have.

The other downside to TomTom is the range and cost of additional maps. I'd quite like maps of New South Wales, but you can't get them, and the maps you can get all come in the bundle with the software and the GPS receiver. Makes for an expensive way of getting maps of more than one area. By comparisson Mapo sells maps of all of Western Europe for the price of TomToms Great Britain map.

There was another app out recently (Destinator SP, I think) so you might want to hang on for a review of that and then decide.

Sorry, didn't answer your original question...

I use an Emtac CruxII with my C500. It's nice GPS receiver, good battery, quite quick initial fix, and pretty small.

It does work with TomTom, but as awarner said, you don't need a GPS receiver if you go for TomTom because it comes with one

I use a rikaline 6031, for one reason only! If BT is off on my phone and My GPS in stanby mode ( C500 and rikaline have bondage setup) And I start my TTM it will fire upp my BT, the 6031 sees the bondage from sleep mode an dinitiates its self and start communicating with TTM and receiving satelites. On Exiting TTM, BT on C500 goes off, and BT gps turns itself in sleep mode again, so no battery drain there.

Love the combination!!!

bought it cheap http://cgi.ebay.nl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...ssPageName=WD2V as in europe it is much more expensive
