Hi,
I've just made the first version of my ITunes Remote control software available for download here. ITunesRemote is a Windows SmartPhone application that can be used to control an instance of ITunes running on a Windows PC. For example, you can use a Bluetooth ActiveSync connection to wirelessly remote control an AirTunes connection to Airport Express. So far, this has only been tested on the couple of Orange SPV phones that I have access to so please consider this an early Beta release... Any feedback would be appreciated (either via my website, or here on Modaco). ![]() Ed |

hi ed. great app, finally remote control of iTunes is a reality!
can i just make a couple of suggestions, i'm sure you've already got them in mind... 1. how about a few more buttons (e.g. mute, shuffle). 2. it would be sweet if there was an option to view all the albums or tracks (rather than just random albums) - i realise this might be prohibitively memory-consuming 3. i love the clean, simple graphics, very apt. but how about getting the brushed metal look as background to the whole thing? that would be killer 4. it's a bit slow; dunno what could be done here but i think it needs work. 5. maybe using the joystick would be more intuitive for play/pause/volume. then again, if i was still using my E200 i would be saying the opposite! (broken joystick - but also broken 4 key!) 6. oh, and when you're in the albums list, it'd be cool if just by clicking on the album or track name it started to play, rather than going into the menu to select play. again, wicked app, i will be using this a lot! EDIT: 7. minor issue, but sometimes two of the random albums are the same, so you end up with only 4 to choose from. minor, but better without it (i imagine it's easy to fix too). Thanks for the feedback - glad you could get it to work...
1. how about a few more buttons (e.g. mute, shuffle). Yep - I'll definitely add a mute button. By shuffle, do you mean shuffle within the current playlist, or just switching to "party shuffle"? 2. it would be sweet if there was an option to view all the albums or tracks (rather than just random albums) - i realise this might be prohibitively memory-consuming This would be good, it's next on my wishlist and shouldn't be too difficult to do. 3. i love the clean, simple graphics, very apt. but how about getting the brushed metal look as background to the whole thing? that would be killer Clean, simple look is a result of my incompetence with the graphics and anything that's artistic rather than just defined... Have you got any examples of what you mean by the brushed metal look? maybe I could give it a go. 4. it's a bit slow; dunno what could be done here but i think it needs work. Yeah, it is a bit crappy at the moment. I've not done any real optimisation, all the comms stuff is in long-hand (XML and web services). I'm sure I'll be able to make some improvements, but maybe I'll just get a newer phone! 5. maybe using the joystick would be more intuitive for play/pause/volume. then again, if i was still using my E200 i would be saying the opposite! (broken joystick - but also broken 4 key!) I've got an E200 with a broken joystick so you guessed my motivation for using the keys. 6. oh, and when you're in the albums list, it'd be cool if just by clicking on the album or track name it started to play, rather than going into the menu to select play. I'll have a think about how to work that (again, I need to take into acount my broken joystick)... 7. minor issue, but sometimes two of the random albums are the same, so you end up with only 4 to choose from. minor, but better without it (i imagine it's easy to fix too). Good spot. I'll try and sort it. As you can probably tell, my user community is currently one person - you. So I'm gonna be pretty accomodating to your feature requests. Cheers, Ed (Oh, and foobar support would be possible with a new server app, but I'm not sure how easy foobar is to automate. Maybe I'll take a look if I've got some spare time). |

QUOTE(lightowl @ Mar 3 2005, 20:57) By shuffle, do you mean shuffle within the current playlist, or just switching to "party shuffle"? i meant shuffle within the current playlist; this would come into its own if (when) the playlist comprises the whole lot, rather than just 5 albums. QUOTE I've got an E200 with a broken joystick so you guessed my motivation for using the keys. bloody E200s!! i suffered with that for about 6 months!! on the playlist issue, how about making both the joystick and some other key (or the menu, as present) activate the song/album?QUOTE Have you got any examples of what you mean by the brushed metal look? i meant the stuff at the top of iTunes itself. it might be worth a try, and then put the text in a white box within it. QUOTE As you can probably tell, my user community is currently one person - you. So I'm gonna be pretty accomodating to your feature requests. i'm sure it will take off, but meanwhile i have my own personal software writer! |

If you could support foobar2000 with this program, I would be over the moon.
I used to use the Epitech remote to control Windows Media Player but I have since switched to foobar because it's a hell of a lot faster for me. It easily let me organize my massive music collection better than Media Player because of the mass tagger etc. Anyway, since it's now my primary player I can't use my phone as a remote. Please consider supporting foobar! |

Wow. I think this is the first good reason I've seen to get myself a bluetooth dongle!

Could you post a link to the download or your website? I'm very interested in this product and I hope it becomes very successful.
