Hi i'm from Romania and i have an SPV C500 Orange and i want 2 update it but the romanian orange guys have not yet delivered an update , i've seen it exists in Uk and in other countries. On the UK Orange site the update is available for download but it is recommended not 2 use the update on an Spv c500 in other countries ! Anyone tried ?

Hello. I'm also from Romania and using the SPV C500. Another romanian MoDaCo member (tudor) told me it's not very wise to update because you'll lose your warranty. Also, the update from Orange UK does not contain the settings for internet, wap and mms, so you'll have to send them via OTA from the orange romania website (www.orange.ro - produse si servicii - servicii online - setari automate). The UK update also does not include Romanian T9. Maybe tudor will see your post and send you the Romanian T9 (he said he has it) in case you decide to update.

I don't want to scare you or anything, but i've decided not to update, because of the warranty problem. But, the thing you can do is to decert your phone... in case you want to install unsigned applications.. you'll need this for most of the homescreens here on MoDaCo.

I won't use the update the warranty is important , and i am not using t9 at all , my phone is set in english 'cause i like it more . I have sent an e-mail to Orange RO to unlock the certificate and 2 ask why don't they make any update. Anyway thx 4 the advices. See ya !!!

You should be able to application unlock using the Orange developers site if you connect the phone to the internet via your PC with the passthrough option.

As far as I know, the Romanian C500 ROM is dated December 2004. The UK C500 ROM 4.1.1.4 is dated October 2004. Although Orange Romania is quite slow at releasing updates, chances are that your phones have at least the GAPI fix (try to run Toki Tori and, if it does not flicker, you're OK with the GAPI issue).

On the specification it says GPRS class 10, so you are OK with the GPRS speed.

@ciudatelu: sorry about the GPRS class 10 thing - didn't know it is 10 already - you really have no reason to upgrade now

About app-unlocking, you need to do it using this website. (awarner was faster :oops: )

I saw the link to the certificate unlocking site but i do not know if the connection to the site must be done with SPV or it can b done with dial-up and the phone connected to the USB cable , if it works got any idea of the data call (how many kB , or price mayb) , and what axactly application unlocked mean ? Does it mean that i can install a .cab file with a theme that has for example start-up and shutdown logos ? Now it doesn't work , i also tried to install applications but failed because "did not have sistem permission" . THX !!!!!

It did'n worked , i downloaded the cab to my phone , and the application says the phone is registered and locking is running , any ideas?

If it says it is registered, just go to the website again on your PC, enter the real phone data, have your phone connected using pass-through connection (remember to set data connections to automatic on the phone) and try again. You may have to try a few times, but it should work eventualy.

I tried this last night but it keeps saying that the imei number is not in their database. By the way i have introduced my real data from the begining , is there a problem if i did so ? I did this before entering this topic but without taking the application registration on the phone , and i got a screen saying i will recieve an sms in which i will be informed that my phone has been app unlocked .
