My smt 5600 own't boot up anymore.

This morning the screen was black, so I pressed some keys, and pushed power and nothing happened. HAd to take the battery out to get it to reboot.

When it rebooted all the Icons across the top were generic "blanks" and the START menu was totally empty. My contacts were still accessible through the soft button for contacts.

Though, "oh crap, hope it's just a glitch." then powered it down, powered it back up and it just hung there at the "Windows Mobile" logo. From there the only way to reboot is to pull the battery.

Tried letting it set without battery for an hour, then rebooted. Same thing - hangs at WM logo.

Tried a Hard Reset, Same thing, hangs at Windows Mobile logo after pressing 0. In fact, I'm not sure it is actually doing the hard reset when I press 0.

Is there anything else I can try, or am I just screwed?

When it hangs at the WM logo, the Bluetooth light is blinking, and the screen goes blank after a while, but you can wake it up with a key press. There are no sounds coming out of it for keypresses.

This is a great phone, but it's pretty frustrating to have it crap out after just 3 months when it hasn't been dropped or otherwise abused!!!!!!

my guess is you didnt do a hard reset, timing is critical, i would try again.

the only alternitive is to contact your network and ask for a replacement

I do know how to do a hard reset, and yes, it was done correctly.

I have called ATT which of course is now Cingular, and IT IS AMAZONG HOW BAD CIGULAR HAS MADE THE CUSTOMER SERVICE.

ATT Used to be so easy to deal with, but since they were bought out they are a NIGHTMARE.

Everything you do to your account you have to call 2 or 3 times to get it taken care of. They don't put any notes int he computer about anything so the next person you talk to you are starting all over. This phone was signed up for insurance the day after it arrived, and I had to call back AGAIN to follow up (like I've had to do with mMode changes and billing errors). Then of course, they somehow STILL f-d up the insurance, and now claim it isn't covered.

ATT USED to have a warranty drop off center locally and they would take care of the phone returns - although this was a couple of years ago - no they have a guy in INdia who hands out the manufacturers phone number. And AUDIOVOX has ONE location - 3000 miles aaway from here.

My SMT 5600 just did the Exact same thing. Is this a common problem with this phone? Have you got any resolution from Audiovox?

I am no expert but had similar problem on my Audiovox SMT 5600. You may want to check couple things: Try to move as many programs as possible to Memory card( after a hard reset). This will free up more memory for running the program. This is a common problem with smartphone(s) to run out of memory and make the system hang up. Other thing I tried was to undo all the hacks I had done to remove ATT logo, mMode and replace with Cingulair. I know you probably already have tried these ideas. Only other thing I can think of is if RAM is gone bad (either corrupted or memory chip gone bad).

Good Luck!

We have not found a solution to rectify this, however, just adding more info, we have about 20 of these phones that have this same problem. If anyone has any info on a diagnostic boot mode or some other way to tell why these phones are hung, we would appreciate it.

Few things to try, how about a software upgrade (guess there is one out for the phone), also what about a SD-card flash back-up, this may help.
