 Chinese Input on English OS

Hi, not really good at chinese, so the phone's language has been changed to English. But sometimes would want to use Pingyin to input some SMS messages. May I know, is there any way to stay in the English OS environment but able to input chinese characters?

Try press and hold the * button when you're in the text input screen. The input method should change..

i thought there was an option for this in one of the settings menus. check through those.
