I need to get my mail, when I'm drinking my gin and tonic in small bay on the Med and wondered if anyone knew of a solar charger that can be used for the SPVc500.

You may be able to find something on the below website, I believe someone on this forum said they had something that was supported for the SPV. But I don't know about the C500...

I love these emergancy chargers - Those ones you have to hand crank give you a nice non constant current which essentially is like plugging your phone into the mains charger, then flicking on and off the switch - you'll be buying a new battery pretty soon!
Solar power wise - surely thats not possible? it would have to be bloody sunny - and have big pannels to be effective! -------------------- -Bluesmudge-

If they don't have power will you have reception? Just a thought.... The boat will only have power from batteries, for the navigational instruments, lights and pumps. The engine and a small wind generator charge them but there will be no power 240v for the plug sockets. And I’ll have coverage because we’re sailing along the cost and mooring in the small Greek bays then taking the dingy and motoring to the little restaurant just over there, with the lovely music playing. Plus I’ve just had great success at unlocking my phone with IMIE unlocker, It’s Great. Then I can pick up a Greece sim for low costs. Need a good solar charger still though. |

You'll be pleased to hear it's wet and miserable here in London....
I don't know of any solar chargers but could you not rig up a car charger to run off the boat battery? That's probably more practical than a solar charger. Don't know what you're going to do with all that excess sunlight though, could you send some of it over here? -------------------- He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. Its not my boat really so I cant start tinkering with anything. I found a solar charger that has batteries inside. You leave the panels in the sun all day which should charge the removable batteries, then you plug your USB cable into the charger and the batteries release that charge to the phone at a constant safe rate. That’s the theory. It’s called the “Smart Solar Charger" Thanks for all the help. |

Glad you've found something - Make sure you try it before you go, in particular I'm thinking of the USB cable - most won't charge a C500 it needs non-standard pin connections to work with a normal charger (the one that comes with it doesn't!). I believe Expansys sell a USB cable that works with the C500. HTH Have a great time out there - wish I was going! The solar chargers I have tried do not provide enough current (even when it is fully charged) to charge the C500.....
