Is it possible that the reason of the MPx delay is that motorola would put in wm 5.0? So they have to redesign the keypad in order to insert the wm5.0 soft keys?

The way Windows Mobile 5 uses memory requires considerably more memory then the MPX offered I'm afraid.

Ya the MPx was cancelled awhile ago. They figured there were to many problems with it and it's been so long. The device is too old and out of date. So they are going to do something completely new. I heard as a "rumor" that motorola is working on a razor smartphone that could be maybe seen late this year. (THIS IS JUST A RUMOR I HAVE HEARD) I just hope it is right. That would be so awesome!

Only a chinese proprietary "wifi adapter" can be sold in china. -------------------- Weird things and Mitac Mio 8390 downloads on http://digilander.libero.it/tipika

The phone simply wasn't good enough (memory for example) But I do really like the design, itlooks like a regular flip phone (just a bit bigger) cuz I dont like having a pocket pc to my face, u know? Also, I think the phones now need GPS standard!!!!! REALLY! I mean who wants to carry external GPS? (not me)! oh and a 10gb hd would be nice too! |

unfortunately a SO rich "phone" will be heavier than a brick....
Of course, a wm5.0 upgrade for the mpx requires a lot of nand rom memory and a more powerful cpu. So, I thought: this is the reason -------------------- Weird things and Mitac Mio 8390 downloads on http://digilander.libero.it/tipika

im sure moto canned the phone because it was crap, or slow, or way underspec for a modern ppc or all of the above
and WM5 isn't the answer, especialy if the question is "what can i put on my phone" or "my phone is crap if i upgrade the os it will be better, what should i try" later Owen -------------------- Webdude - Digital Pimp - Fat free news (with added pie)

When I was at the orientation for the company I now work for there was a new hire from Singapore who sat next to me and had an MPX. She was nice enough to let me play with it (you might be a geek if you are more interested in the phone then the girl...) and from my impression if the MPX shipped when they originally intended it would have done ok. Unfortunately it is too big, too slow, and really mostly a gimmick, and couldn't compete today. The keyboard is freaky as heck and annoying to use, the flip design makes it bigger and doesn't offer any appreciable purpose (other than necessitate the keyboard be freaky so it can be used in two orientations), and when I said the phone was too big, I meant it. It is freakin huge, larger than most PDAs. The Imate PDA2k (and all of the other iterations of the HTC pda) is nicer, as is the new Samsung i730, and both are already on the market. The HTC Universal (MDA IV, etc) is pretty big as well, but offers enough that it may be worth the size. The HTC Wizard looks like it will be completely cool and both of the later 2 will be running WM 5.
Motorola cancelled plans to release it worldwide. I think you can still get it in South east Asia (Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia) but it won't ship anywhere else. When they released the Razor I think they reevaluated the MPX and realized they couldn't compete with it. I suspect there are a lot of rumors to a razor like smart phone. If you look at a lot of the new motorola concepts their more expensive phones all seem to be shooting for a razor like profile. ~JBW |

Also, thats true there would need to be some redesigning. ALso, it lacked a lot of features, including hardly no memory! Also, maybe they wanted to put GPS in it! |

errm
they canned it because it was ass slow, and way below the spec of any ppc that anyone in there right mind would buy and extravigant, buy a bloody bluetooth gps and stop going on about intergrated gps', if you want to go on a bike ride or a walk, stick the gps in a pocket in your rucksack (btw bluetooth works without wires so you can have your gps upto 10 metres away from the device thats talking to it) later Owen -------------------- Webdude - Digital Pimp - Fat free news (with added pie)
