Hi,
I was just wondering what you guys think of a 'smartphone' for home use. Would u guys consider buying one? More specifically, I mean a compact phone, with a very large LCD + keypads etc, maybe even a querty keyboard type thing all on the base, for your home! Perhaps it can sync contact/calendar information! I think it would be just great, provided it has the right software / functionality! Some software can include to download information such as tv guide information, weather, even use websites such as yellowpages.com or something to find phone number information in pocket IE, all while being synced to a wireless router or some other type of connectivity that is cost effective! Let us know what u think! 8) now obviously u can argue why not use your smartphone u have now, but I think its considerably different, a moible and your home phone.. I'm not sure what you mean really, it doesn't sound very revolutionary, if you mean a normal house phone that acts like a smartphone then I think it's pointless as you can just use your pc at home for that type of thing (and use skype to talk to people), or use the home phone to phone people. That is the only use for home phones, which is why in built cameras in home phones have not caught on! There is no point when you can have something bulkier that does a better job if you aren't going to move around with it. Just my two pence. -------------------- |

QUOTE(Jamma14 @ Jun 24 2005, 04:04) The radation doesn't come from the OS itself, the fact that its communicating wirelessly is causing the 'radiation.' So I think we'd be safe to have a windows home phone type of device, without radiation since it would run on the landline. |

Doesn't matter, you get plenty radiation just talking on your home phone... It doesn't matter if you're on your mobile phone or not, the waves are there eitherway, unless you happen to live in the middle of nowhere, radiation will always be heating you up, especially with the UMTS poles...
Aw well, sh*t happens. As to the home smartphone, bad idea... Seriously, if you depsperately want in on a wire plug in the usb, then you have a smartphone at home not losing battery... sigh. This post has been edited by YBM: Jun 24 2005, 21:39 |

I never heard of a landline giving off radiation. Why would holding the reciever give off radiation? I think your wrong. And normal phones here with LCDs are pretty bad, the options are very limited etc, and they are very clostly. Its not the same to just use a smartphone if u badily want it at home. A home phone is a home phone. U cant compare apples and oranges. THe point is, the phones here have massive LCDs and they just go to waste since there isn't good options etc. So a windows based home phone would take care of that problem. Of course u can argue just use the PC, in that case, why do u need a windows smartphone to begin with? Doesn't it suck, really? I mean, no touch screen, entering data takes forever, and u can manage contacts with other devices. Only good thing is that it syncs with outlook. The smartphone still blows. Cant wait for a nice Pocket pc to come out, like the mPX 300.. not the HTV Universal, that thing is a brick, the mpx was nice, it flips open like a regular flip phone. Also, GPS will soon be integrated, and then I will certainly upgrade |

I'm not stupid you know, I didn't think it was the fact that we run Windows Mobile on our phones that causes radiation, if you look at the post I quoted it was about a BT service for the motorla v560 which means you pay landline rates on your mobile if you are at home. -------------------- |

QUOTE(Pondrew @ Jun 25 2005, 08:42) Well, yes, the MPX 300 does the same stuff as the Universal, only it has EDGE and more memory. THe MPX looks close to a regular phone, thats why I would choose the mpx 300 over the HTC Universal. If the HTC Universal had integrated GPS, then maybe I would reconsider. |

I thought one of the main problems with the Mpx was its lack of memory both RAM and ROM??? Was it not? -------------------- |

Unfortunately reviews of the MPX said that it DIDN'T do what other Pocket PCs could because of a slow processor and next to no memory... ...32meg to be exact which is nothing less then a joke! And bear in mind these reviews were over 6months ago!!! |

I like that kind of style rather then holding a pocket pc to your head. Also, I cant stress enough, INTEGRATED GPS! Lets make it happen MOTO and everyone else! |
