I read an article on a car tracker that reports its location via GPS and in the event GPS isnt available it use GSM triangulation. This was also wired into the engine immobiliser so you could text your car and it would disable the engine.
You could also ring the phone and it would automatically answer and show no active call (as if the phone wasn't doing anything), therefore allowing you to listen to the car thieves and obtain even more information about them. Ok, and now to the point of this thread:- I don't want to pay for this car tracker as it is about £1000. I have a C500 that I keep in my car that I have registered its number with http://www.world-tracker.com as a buddy. This enables me to see where my car is when requested (within 0.5km radius) from this web site so if it got stolen I would know roughly where to look. What I also want to be able to do with my C500 is as mentioned above, whereby I can call my C500 and it automatically answer, without ringing or without showing an active call. Does anyone know of anything or has the ability to write this type of thing for a Smartphone? I would find this very usefull and am sure it would be a good product to market. The only things missing then is the ability to integrate this into the engine management system to remotely shutdown the engine (one step at a time I think) Any comments or suggestions are welcome!. Thanks |

Interesting idea, but I'm not sure the Heath Robinson approach is the best.
You could set your phone to silent mode, turn auto answer on (that might only work with the headset mode though, not sure) and create a caller ID template which looks the same as your Homescreen. The backlight would still come on, but it wouldn't show any other signs of activity (to the uneducated at least) If the phone is plugged into the car power you could also try something like GPS.PI, which will show you on a map where your "car" phone is (based on GPS signal). Stuff the GPS in the glovebox with an external antenna... |

I have heard of modified nokia mobile phones doing this, infact its very common and commercially available for 'spying' activites.
I haven't got a link for you at the moment though a google search for spy technology might work. I haven't heard about other phones doing this, but I don't see why not, if someone could program it (ie the rom). |

Thanks for your replies.
Chucky.egg, like you thinking behind this. I will give this a go! Lammypie, I too have heard of these modfied Nokia's which also prompted to write this post as if a Nokia can be configured to do this then surely a Windows 2003 mobile smartphone can? Keep these ideas/information coming, I can feel a good idea coming out of this. |

What about using CellTrack (http://celltrack.spv-developers.com) and CellTracker (PC app) to locate your phone?

I can't find CellTracker at the moment, but you could have a browse of the forums (http://www.spv-developers.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=20)
I thought TheLogster posted a link to it, but can't find it now There are a few other ideas - such as using Google Maps - which you can see on the forums too |

Thanks Chucky.egg
With regards to setting auto answer. It would appear that this option is only part of the Headset profile and this can't be selected unless a headset is connected. Does anyone know of a work around to this, either set auto answer on Normal profile or force Headset profile to be selected without headset connected? thanks |

How do you create a caller ID template. I have been searching and have found references to PIT TOOL creator but cannot find a link anywhere to this that works??
Any ideas? Thanks QUOTE(chucky.egg @ Jul 19 2005, 13:00) Interesting idea, but I'm not sure the Heath Robinson approach is the best.

Ok, I have created a PIT template file that shows when a call is incoming (works perfect). Is there a way to continue to show this when the call has been answered, ie, instead of the summary screen that is showing during the call??
Help appreciated. Thanks ps Did any find out where to download the PC application that works with Cell Track? |
