When i try to install any software via activesync active sync checks for free space on device (not storage card) and then it would not install the app if device dont have anough free space.

Is there a way i can tell activesync to install all apps onto the storage card and not device memory? My deivce has only 3mb storage space left even though i deleted the antivirus, arabic software, etc. How do i get over this problem?

wah 3mb is pretty low. What else do you have on there? I got 28mb free from boot and 25 after the cache fills up. (SP5)

Usually activesync or the phone pops up with a box asking you where you want to put the app. Maybe this is another bug, it fails before that prompt if your device is too full.

cellchamp - the other poster already told you...

Whenever you install ANY app, the PC usually pops up a message saying "Check your mobile device screen in case any further action is required"

Then you look at the Mobile screen, and you sometimes get a "Are you sure you wish to install an unsigned application" message.

After you say yes to that, it asks you where you wish to install, and by default, it will say "Device" and I think this is where you are missing things, thinking this is a statement, not a choice...

In actual fact, if you press left or right, you can toggle between Device, and Memory Card...

And that is what you should have been doing for all your previous installs mate... Changing this to Memory Card, beofre THEN clicking to continue installing!

Dude i know this.

The thing is Active Sync would not send an App which is 5MB in size to my device and shows an error on my desktop saying "your device doesnt have enough memory. My device had 3MB free. I do have a storage card with lots of mem.

But active sync defaults to checking free space on device before sending the file to your mobile, so the installtion location screen on phone doesn't pop up cos active sync returns an error before even the file is send on the phone as it requires 5mb free memory on my deivce.

So my question is can i tell Active Sync to send the file to my mem card and not device? What is the work around to this?

Yes, you can tell Actuvesync to put the file in the mem card.

1. Open Active sync
2. Click on Explore
3. Double-click on the "My Windows-Based Mobile Device" icon. This is a shortcut to the rest of the files.
4. Double-click on "Storage Card" (or whatever your memory card is named) and there it is! Select where to send the file on the memory card and you're golden.

If the file is an installer, and the installer does not give you an option to choose the location for installation, then it is poor coding from the developer. You can try to open the installer with WinRAR or so to extract the .cab file. Another option is to check the Microsoft Activesync directory during the installation routine if the installer placed a .cab file in a directory. Copy it to another place before quiting the installation. Otherwise check the site from the program if it is possible to download a .cab file instead of an installer.

If you have a .cab file, place it on your Storage Card and browse to it with Explorer on your phone. Select it and install. During that routine, you will be asked where you want to install the program. You can guess the rest...

To me it sounds like Activeysnc copies the installation files to the phone storage first temporarily, then installs it from there, asking where you want to install it, phone or storage card.

Sounds to me like it can't do the temporary copying part due to lack of storage. Whether you can change this or not I don't know. Sorry.

The installation files will be placed on the phone first, so you need to free up some space on the phone otherwise you will not be bale to install other applications unless that are less thatn the 3MB you say you have spare.
Once installed the installation files are deleted.

Nope. Most go to Program Files, like with it's big brother on your PC.
