Just followed these instructions and it worked perfect - thanks to the original poster!

I've now got a "Drinking Phone" that I can stick me old T-Mobile SIM in.... biggrin.gif

Thanks again

Hi, i don't know if anyone's still reading this thread, but here goes anyhow : D

I've pretty much followed all the instructions to getting the phone decerted and unlocked, but yesterday i put a mate's SIM from his old vodafone pay-as-you go handset into my orange SPV C550, and I keep getting a 'No Service' Header when it's booted up. Am I being a dufus here? Is it just the SIM that won't have it or is it possible i've missed something in the unlock process? I want to box this bad girl up and send her back to my folks back in deepest darkest africa but i'm nervous that if it's not completely unlocked, their archaic mobile carrier will take one look and tell them to forget it. Could anyone advise on similar problems, or if there's something else i could try?

I have a UK T-Mobile SDA II and I've followed all of the steps on all of the different suggested ways of app unlocking the phone, and I can load software on no problem.

BUT...I've changed the shortcuts from the 3 of the 4 main buttons [Short_AP1, 2, 3] to apps more useful for me [Tom Tom, Task Manager, File Manager]. Now that's fine until I need to reboot the phone [which I occassionaly have to do, as it seems to freeze sometimes]. This involves removing the battery briefly.

After rebooting, the shortcut buttons have reset themselves to their original settings [t-mobile internet, calendar and contacts]. I then have to edit the files all over again using CENotepad.

Can anyone PLEASE tell me how to keep the settings when I reboot?? It's driving me NUTS having to do this every week!!!

---------------------

Also, does anyone else have problems with their phones going weird occassionally. On mine, some of the keys will just not do anything eg shortcut keys, softkeys, etc even though the joystick will still navigate around. If, say, the contacts shortcut key doesn't do anything, I find I can't even open contacts by pressing Start then Contacts. Only solution is a reboot.

Hi,

About a year ago I unlocked my C500, no problems - despite not being too computer literate, but it cost me £20 for the pleasure. I can't find the link to that site now, and besides I would kinda like to avoid loosing £20. dry.gif

I now have a C550 I'd like to unlock, I've tried to run REGEDIT but it keeps telling me I've got the wrong version of windows. ohmy.gif I've tried it on 98 and ME. Is there a specific version of Windows it likes? or is there a way around the error messages?

Cheers

Fraggle

You need to run the reg editor on the phone and not the PC.

Microsaft and the likes of Orange et al restrict access to the OS by third party applications for 'security' reasons. This means any application not in posession of a Microsaft certificate will not install on an 'locked' device. Hence, they generally need unlocking (or decertifying).

Great little guide, thanks!

I needed to unlock my old orange C500 after ive destroyed by screen on my MDA Pro, so needed a phone until i get the insurance sorted.

One note however, the link in the guide to the Spv Services Application is out of date, the page has been turned into one of them annoying search pages, so i just googled it and found it easy enough,

Thanks Again smile.gif ,

Kenny
