Ok, we all know Co-Pilot is available 'free' on T-Mobile's FlexT+Web'n'Walk tarriff. But how does it function? Is it comparable with TomTom 5 in terms of functions and accuracy?
I'm planning to defect to T-Mobile as soon as my Orange contract expires and I'm wondering if the Co-Pilot software bundle is worth the extra cash at the outset, or is it just a bit of a gimmick? I'm sure it 'works' but does it do the job well? -------------------- MDA Vario II, WM6, SanDisk 2Gb micro-SD, Motorola HS810 BT headset, and chuffed to little mint balls!!!

Co-pilot works but it's not a scratch on TomTom (this is with an older version of Co-pilot I have)
I have not tried the latest version of Co-pilot but from what others say TomTom is still the best being more user friendly. -------------------- 3 mobile where the words "customer" and "service" only exists in the dictionary

I haven't used CoPilot but Tom Tom is pretty good and easy to use. The only gripe I have with it is that the maps seem quite old, even with the latest Mobile 5 version. But it is still the most useful prog on my C500.

I've used Co-Pilot on a c500 and Tom Tom on a M2000 & Vario. I'd definitely say that Tom Tom is the more user friendly. Not that Co-Pilot is bad once you have it set up, I just found Tom Tom easier on the whole. Co-Pilot is definitely not a gimmick.

Tomtom's great I have it on my M500. Used it proper for the first time Thurs & it got the there & back without issue.
Before you defect you need to call Express Communications, they did the deal on my M500, undercut everyone & just kept giving me stuff! lol I'll dig out the number if you wish. |

CoPilot 6 - which is what you get from T-Mob - is great. Accurate and well integrated with your contacts, ie you can select a contact as a point to navigate to and it will ask if you want home or business address - simple.
Overall I still prefer TomTom, the 3D view is better and POIs work better (eg speed - sorry, I mean safty cameras just show on the route with a warning - on CoPilot it takes over the screan which you have to click to get back to the map) If you don't already have a GPS receiver and s/ware CoPilot from T-Mob is well worth it. If I had the choice to buy at the same price I would chose tom tom. Just my opinion. -------------------- He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. Ok, the crunch question:
Looking on the T-Mobile site today, they have no Vario's, no Compact's, only MDA Pro. Don't particularly want one of those - too big - but if I did and I wanted Co-Pilot on board, I'd have to pay £170 more for it than if I had the Pro on it's own. Is it worth £170?? I'm sure TomTom5 is about the same price? From what others have said in this thread, it seems I'd be better off saving the £170 and putting it towards a stand-alone TT5 package? -------------------- MDA Vario II, WM6, SanDisk 2Gb micro-SD, Motorola HS810 BT headset, and chuffed to little mint balls!!!

The Pro is great - 3G web access is fantastic - but if you don't want it you can, I believe, get TomTom cheaper than £170 so I would go for TT.

I've not seen much about Navigator 7 - I know that navigator 2005 was a completely different thing - more akin to Autoroute than a proper GPS package. The thing you have to watch for BB is the lack of map coverage - I know the ROI is very poorly covered and someone was complaining how bad TomTom was there. I have to add my vote for Tom Tom here! I can't compare with co-pilot, but I have tried Mapopolis for a little while. And on the whole Tom Tom blows the socks off Mapopolis, and IMHO is the best designed piece of software i've ever owned on the pocket pc / smartphone. Well thought out, a bit slow on the Vario but still incredible in so many ways!

Thanks for that. I noticed the Vario is back on the website again - and the Compact with Co-Pilot is free!! (The Vario is only £49 with C-P on FlexT35 too.) Lovely I still think I'll hang on a while for the Vario II, but it's nice to know the software actually functions.
