I'm slightly confused by the lack of an obvious 'search' function in WinMobile2005. The general move in software is towards simple, quick, searching to find info. Having used a palm for many years i'd got into the habit of adding metadata to contacts, notes and appointments to enable me to find them without knowing exactly how they were filed.

In Palm a search across say, contacts, for a name would produce results in seconds.

I've found a search function on my Prophet (under 'help') but a search of contacts (800 records) takes well over a minute.

Am i missing something? How can it be that slow?

I don't know about Palm, but the Windows Mobile search can (optionally) search Contacts, Calendar etc as well as the content of Excel and Word files

The more files you have, the longer it will take to search

You can narrow down your search (just to Contacts for example) and it should then be much quicker. Change the "Type" to the sort of data you are looking for

I just searched Contacts-only (132 records) for "hr" and got 3 matches in 3 seconds.

At that rate, if it's consistent, 800 records should be searchable in 24 seconds give or take.

What did you search for?
How long did it take?
