Sniper

Ever wanted to send anonymous text messages? Ever been on a bus and seen a cute girl sitting in the corner and wished you had her number? Ever been in shop with annoying children playing ringtones and wish you could think of a subtle way to tell them stop it? Ever been in a classroom, office or a pub with your mates and wish you could scare, shock or make them laugh somehow?

Well now you can! Sniper is an amazing application that is simple and very useful to use. Currently in its beta stages Sniper has a very initiative menu system that will make it easier for you to make the correct decision.

Created by Ifor Evans it will run on any Windows Mobile Device! Including Smartphone’s and Pocket PC’s! It also runs at any resolution and on any operating system!

With sniper you can:-

Choose the incoming folder that you files are delivered to!

And even get status reports of sent and received files!

Attached File  status.JPG ( 10K ) Number of downloads: 16

With many more features to come Sniper will blow all other Bluetooth applications right out of the water!
Sniper will soon have the ability to:-

• Pair with devices!
• Auto Accept!
• Have different views on the background, e.g. received files or received txts!
• Sms sending abilities! (maybe)
• Ability to send different file types to different folders!
• Percentage bars or of how longer it will take to receive, send and scan!

And much much more……

But we need you help!

In order to make this app even more amazing, we need ideas! If you have any ideas or comments then please please let us know in this thread.

It will be charged at a very reasonable price of £6.99 when submitted to the MoDaCo shop and £8.99 when submitted to Handango.

The beta testing is now full!

If you are testing please post all bugs, feedback & suggestions here!

Thanks very much

Sam and Ifor.

Hi,

No the receiver doesn't HAVE to have Sniper on it. Hence you can send messages to other types of SmartPhones like Nokias.

However, Sniper has a built in "Inbox" for txt messages received over BlueTooth so for receiving on MS mobiles it's much prettier ;-)

Haha, okay, lets start with the first bugreport:

1) There is no notification telling me that I am currently receiving a file.

2) File transfer will interrupt somewhere in the middle when I try to send huge files via bluetooth to the storage card. I assume that somehow the file is cached in the main memory and after that transferred to external storage in this beta. This is a pretty bad approach, because as it is now if I have only 512KB free on my phone I can only receive files with a maximum of 512KB, even if I have gigabytes of free room on my storage card.

Okay, that are my first impressions.

Oh, and i guess its written in .Net Compact Framework, right? (because of the long startup time), right?

Hmm ... Sniper will not start receiving a file without you having agreed to the transfer. Are you saying you didn't get a confirmation popup? What device was this on?

The issue with large transfers I am aware of, and am working on a resolution :-)

have yyou tried the txt messaging side of things yet?

No, havent tried text messages yet as I am pretty busy today. I will do that tomorrow. And, no, I dont get a confirmation popup on my phone. It just receives the file without asking me and asks me if it should be received when the transfer is already done. ;-) I am on a i-Mate SP5 with latest AKU2 ROM here and I send the files from my PC (with MS Bluetooth stack).

2) When I click onto the Hide bit I can not get the Sniper back up and running I have to restart both the Devices to get the program to come back on.

hey there thanks for picking up on that as well, we were seeing if it was just certain phones or many!

We are aware of this problem and are near completion on a fix for this.

A new version will be distributed shortly.

Enjoy the testing.

Okay, feature request:

Just talked with my friends about the app and some of them told me that a in-built bluejacking solution would be great. That means: You select a picture or a textmessage, press "Bluejack" and then the phone sends this picture or message to all other bluetooth enabled devices in range, and that every 30 seconds (or more or less / should be user defineable). Haha, stuff for the kiddies wink.gif , but cool in some way I have to admit. I imagine walking through some crowd with this function running, and all phones around me start beeping and ringing. *lol*

And a request directly from me: Please add all the functions in the first post. That is:

• Pair with devices!
• Auto Accept! <- Very important
• Have different views on the background, e.g. received files or received txts!
• Ability to send different file types to different folders! <- Very important
• Percentage bars or of how longer it will take to receive, send and scan! <- Very important

Also: When you wish to send a file bluetooth should be automaticly activated. Now you have to manually activate it before you can send, just like it is in Windows. And that makes no sense. I always wondered why Microsoft did not solve this like all other manufaturers where BT is activated automaticly when you select a file for sending. Sniper should do it better than Microsoft. wink.gif
