![]() Ranging from personal rants and family news, politics, technology, hobbies, whatever....Blogs, formerly webogs, have become part of our daily internet reading. They are the modern way to publish your thoughts and news for the world to read. Whether you write one or just read them, they are here to stay and are getting bigger every day. There are a ton of blog publishing tools out there these days that make it easy to setup and start posting in a matter of minutes. MovableType, Typepad, WordPress, LiveJournal, just to name a few. I used to have a MovableType blog, but have since switched to WordPress. It figures that soon after I switch, a bunch of MovableType apps are released for the Smartphone that allow posting directly from your phone...from wherever you are. You are no longer limited to use only from your PC, blogging at the end of a days events. Now you can blog from wherever you are, as it's happening.[/teaser] Many publishing tools already offer blogging via email. But most require servers to have the ability to run CRON jobs; automatic functions that run periodically, in this case, checking a certain secret email address for new mails that will then be converted into posts. Sadly, my hosting company does not offer this. I've been looking for a Smartphone integrated solution, and low and behold, a bunch of options pop up before me. First, as read on PocketPCThoughts, SixApart has converted their recently aquired SplashBlog, to now post directly into your TypePad weblog and photo albums. Their WM5 installer works on both WM5 PPCs as well as Smartphones (the way a good WM5 app should work!). The application is available >>HERE<< RandyRants, who has had a MovableType PocketPC client for years called PocketSharpMT, has recently released a Smartphone version named PhoneSharpMT. RandyRants does require .NET-CF 2.0 to be installed. Their applications are available >>HERE<< Well, that's great for you SixApart users out there...but what about us WordPress folk? The one solution I could find is a variation of the email blogging, utilizing Flickr. On Flickr, you can set up an email address that allows you to post photos on your Flickr site. Now, you can also set up a seperate email address that will post to your blog as well...including WordPress. Not bad...but I would still like a full featured Smartphone application to handle this task as I would like to be able to EDIT while out and about as well, which ANY email solution does not allow your to do. Actually, people tell me it works on WordPress, as well since they are using the MovableType version of the XMLRPC API.
The problem is that there's "one" API for Blogging yet every single engine adds their own crap to it meaning that you can't have a one size fits all and still offer key blogging-engine features. w.Bloggar was able to do some of that: gives you the common fields for all blog engines, but I thought that sucked, considering I use ALL the fields of MT/TypePad. Side note on SharpMT though: only the desktop version allows you to edit server-based posts - Pocket and Phone versions only let you edit locally stored, unposted posts. |

I was hoping to find a Flickr upload client for the PocketPC for when my SPV M3100 arrives. Hoping to be able to take pics with it while out and about, and then upload them quickly and easily via wifi to my Flickr account when I get home.
Anyone know if such a thing exists? This post has been edited by finisterre: Aug 12 2006, 13:06 |

There is a program called Shozu you may want to check out.
You could also send pics to Flickr using regular email. -------------------- Nick Cornaglia blog | photos | twitter | location | geocaching | xbox |

Thanks, but I think this is for Smartphones only, whereas the M3100 is a PocketPC phone. I know about the email thing, but I was hoping for something a bit quicker and easier. I'll keep investigating. |

Gave up on trying to find a WordPress client.
I found a guy who had one...but he has switched to MAC Now I just use Flickr via email which posts directly to my blog (not just pics but totles and text too). Easy. Simple. No need for the rest. -------------------- Nick Cornaglia blog | photos | twitter | location | geocaching | xbox |

Hey good news ShoZu now officially supports Pocket PC's (we have actually unofficially supported them for some time), we are slowing working through testing all the PPC models we have but unfortunately we cant test them all, so please feel free to try your device and let us know how it fairs. You will be pleased to know ShoZu also supports Word Press as a destination as well as about 20 or so others including Flickr, Buzznet, You tube, Blogger and we are adding more all the time. ....And its still free....Enjoy.
