Well finally decided to go for a vario II on tmobile with web n walk smile.gif
Decided I wanted a nippier more transportable phone than my XDA Exec wink.gif

Well phoned to cancel tonight... Boy talk about hard sell...

They wanted to know why.. I said about TMobile web n walk and flex package etc...

Got told you know thats an 18 month contract. Web n walk is txt only and slow with no pictures (told this multiple times). They didn't listen to me when I tried to correct them about this...

After being offered several nice deals on O2 I said I still wanted to cancel. I was told well you will have to write in. Once we get the letter assuming it doesn't get lost the 30 days notice is from that point...

Eventually I was given the option of being sent an o2 payg sim free in which I can switch within 14 days and can cancel and get another pack within 14 days...

Is the PAYG sim the best way to go as I want to start my TMobile contract at the start of next month and don't want to get caught up with paying several contracts for several months. I also want to port my number to TMobile.

Any ideas guys n girls??????

I've recently also canceled a O2 contract to go to t-mobile, in the process getting a PAC code to transfer my telephone number.

I was put through to retentions and did get asked why I was switching, but once I had pointed out there was no suitable O2 version of web'n'walk they gave me my PAC pretty quickly and the O2 contract should be canceled as soon as the transfer goes through, no snail-mail or notice required (you may need to give notice if your still within the minimum term of your O2 contract though, I wasn't)

I think the thing here is that because the number transfer system is a standard, they have to follow the guidelines, which includes terminating the account after the transfer. You might want to try a number transfer if you don't mind keeping your current number, apart from that, theres nothing AFAIK in the O2 t's & c's that require a letter, stick to your guns and make sure they know your not asking, your telling.

I just swapped from O2 to Orange so I could have an M3100. I got put through to retentions and asked why I wanted to leave. Told them "can you supply me NOW with an equivalent phone and tariff?" and when they said "no" I told them, "OK then I want my PAC". Then I got offered a 25 minutes/25 txts, a free upgrade and cashback after 12 months for £6 per month to keep my existing number on O2.

Told them I wasn't interested and had no hassles after that. You should NOT have to write on so try again, and if you get given the same BS, ask to speak with a grown-up.

How far into your O2 contracts were you? How much did you have to pay to cancel? I am in month 10 of 18.

Now there is your problem..... I was just coming up to the end of my 12 month contract. After what you just said, I'm surprised you were even offered the chance to write in! What you could do, as you have been with them more than six months, is to downgrade.
Tell them you want the same £6 per month thing I was offered by retentions. If they agree, then you can go where you want for your new phone (T-Mobile seems to be flavour of the month here for the Hermes)... it'll cost you and extra £48 in sweeteners to O2 over 6 months - not too much of a hit.

hi guys,
Still haven't sorted o2 out yet but couldn't wait so picked up hermes 2 instore today smile.gif

wow its a lot lighter and smaller than the exec!

Tmobile told me that I can apply my puk code anytime so thought heck i'll take a hit for a month with o2 and hope I can get my puk code within the next couple of weeks.

Is the puk code supplied immediately or do u have to wait a while for it to turn up by post?

if it is the same as when i called them for my o2 payg number, they give it to you over the phone, and follow it up with a letter in the post.

You don't have to wait for the letter- so long as you write down the PAC code when you speak to them.

You can then call T-Mobile and furnish them with the code and they will set the wheels in motion.

I also did the same thing, asked for pac from o2 through carphone warehouse, they said i had to write in! so i did, but sent it 1st class recorded! as i've heard stories of requests by post mysteriously vanishing. They have to supply the pac code withing 48 hours of them getting the request, i got mine soon after by txt, it took 7 days to transfer my old number over to t-mobile. I must say, that since i've been with t-mobile (1 month now) i've noticed a massive difference in customer service compared to O2/CPW. CPW offered me all kinds of deals to keep hold of my custom, but they couldn't beat the flext terrif, so said goodbye to them.

my contract with o2 came to an end as soon as the pac code was transfered (7 days after getting it by txt) if you dont use the pac within 28 days, then your contract carries on and you will be billed as normal.

Well, my earlier post was a bit optimistic. The date of the PAC transfer came and went with no transfer (just after midnight I called my number and it still rang on the O2 phone). The next day the number still hasn't arrived on the t-mobile device and o2 have apparently closed my account. If you ring the number you get a message saying its not recognised and of course the appropriate department in t-mobile isn't open over the weekend (Who's idea was it to do PAC transfers on a friday when no ones there the next day to sort it out if theres a screw up?). If I loose my number over this, I'm gonna get really annoyed.

I will never join O2 at CPW again.

Emailed them to cancel my contract a week ago only to recieve a reply that I had to first call O2 CS, obtain a reference number and then write in again via snail mail! Why couldn't he have supplied the ref number there and then?

Called them today, and it got even better, the letter has to be in the right format and sent to a specific address, anything esle and it wouldn;t count.

Seems they are making the termination process difficult and are using the Data Protection Act as an excuse for this.

NEVER AGAIN.

Poor poor poor customer service.

I switched from O2 CPW to t mobile direct.

yes i was annoyed at the snail mail letter thing but there was no particular format that they asked for.

i also got my pac code by text within 4 days. and it transferred ok (although neither phone worked for about 3 hours while doing the transfer)

o2 CPW were crap and i definately would not reccomend going through CPW for anything if it can be avoided.

The less said about talk talk as well the better

Is this problem for all O2 or just contracts arranged at CPW? I need to cancel them at 12 months next week, but it wasn't through CPW.

CPW are absolutely clueless.

Walked in, asked if they had any M3100's, guy stared at me blankly and said 'ya what?', walked out the shop

NEVER going there again....

Got a similar reaction from The Link

Best going direct to the networks themselves if you ask me

I received an email from o2 yesterday stating:

QUOTE
Dear O2 Online Customer,

We've made some changes to O2 Pay Monthly and Business Airtime contracts.

The fully updated terms and conditions can be viewed at http://www.O2.co.uk/termsconditions/yourairtimecontract.

If you're a bit hard pressed for time, don't worry, we've also given you a brief summary of the changes below (but we do recommend finding a moment to familiarize yourself with the fully updated terms).

Regards

The O2 Online Team

Here is a summary of the key changes from October 2006
(However please read the new terms for full changes)

1. If you connect to an online tariff your airtime agreement commences on the day your mobile phone is dispatched (clause 3.1).

2. If you upgrade your mobile phone a new minimum period will apply – (clause 3.3).

3. Some pricing information has been moved to the O2 Price List (clause 5).

4. If you are a consumer customer, within 6 months of upgrading you must not move to a tariff with a lower monthly subscription unless you pay us the difference between the monthly subscription on your original tariff and the lower rate tariff. This does not apply to business customers (clause 5.13). Business customers cannot move tariffs at all during their minimum period unless we agree in writing.

5. The insurance provisions have been updated to include reference to our new O2 insure policies Premier & Standard (clause 6.3).

6. We have added a new clause stating that you agree that you are procuring the SIM cards, mobile phone & service for your own use and that you will not resell or act as a distributor in respect of these things (clause 6.6).

7. We have slightly amended clause 8.4 (a) which gives you the right to end the agreement if we break this agreement in any material way and do not correct the situation in 7 days from receipt of your written request.

8. If we increase charges for inclusive calls or monthly line rental, we will give 30 days' notice and in these circumstances you will have the right to cancel your contract provided you give us 30 days' written notice & provided you tell us within one month of our notifying you about the changes. (If we increase charges for other, additional services such as Bolt Ons, third party services, premium rate services or other value added services, you may cancel or stop using this additional service only) (clause 8.4c).

9. New clause 9 has been added. This section only applies to business customers and contains various clauses from the previous business contract. The wording has been tweaked slightly in some places.

10. O2 is not responsible for deletion, loss or corruption of any content transmitted or maintained by the network unless this is caused by our negligence (new clause 9.2).

11. Limitation of liability wording has been slightly amended to state that nothing in the agreement shall exclude or limit liability for death or personal injury resulting from either party's negligence or fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation and new limitation of liability has been added for business customers. (clause 10.4).

12. We have added that we will post any changes to terms and conditions or charges on our website (clause 12.1).

13. We have updated the wording which explains how you can contact us if you have a complaint (clause 15.4).

14. We have extended the ways in which we may use information about you and your use of the service – which may now include communications made and received by you and the date, duration, time and cost of such communications and the location of your mobile phone (clause 18.3).

15. Details of premium rate services charges operated by third parties, are available via our website www.O2.co.uk/premiumnumberpricing.

16. We will charge a fee to receive a copy of any information from a credit reference or fraud prevention agency, which we hold on file about you.

17. Our address for complaints has changed to:
Complaints Review Service
PO Box 116
Leeds
LS11 5DS

18. The address that you need to write to if you want to cancel your agreement with us has changed to: O2 UK, PO Box 202, Houghton Regis, LU5 5WA.

Is there anything here that will allow me to cancel my contract now (i'm on 10 months at the moment and really can't wait to cancel it as o2 reception is so poor here) under any of the terms and conditions?

I dispute the O2 online are fine bit, based on my experience! The difference in customer service with T-Mobile is so welcome.

I've just left O2 for Orange and recently bought the SPV3100.

I have to admit I was really impressed with O2. I sent a letter asking for my PAC code and explaining why I was moving. I received a text message a couple of days later from them saying 'we have received your letter and are sorry to hear you are leaving. Your PAC will be sent shortly'. Then a couple of days after that my PAC arrived with a 'we hope you'll come back to us letter.

I'm happy to have moved to Orange however I felt that O2 handled my leaving very professionally. Sorry to hear you've had quite the opposite experience!
