Does anyone know any apps that make using the contacts easier one handed? Its not that its hard, its just a bit clunky.

Failing that anyone know any way of forcing phone pad to type directly into the T9 text lookup for contacts or do any of the Tengo products do this?

Or did anyone figure out how to use the scroll wheel to scroll quickly throgh the contacts, i.e. to show the big letter?

And anyone know how to enable one click dialing of a contact???? I HATE the fact you have to click once to 'import' the number to the dialler and then again to dial it.

Have a look at SPB Diary or SBSH Pocket Breeze with SBSH Contact Breeze as well

Both are quite similar, SPB Diary is probably better if you want SPB Pocket Plus as well as it plugs in neatly.

Contact breeze looks exactly like what I want but I will give them all a trial and see how I get on. Cheers for the input chaps.

Spb Diary sounds like you probably need to use the stylus to T9 the contacts since the letter tabs at the bottom look pretty small, is that the case? Also SPB Diary looks very busy without SPB Pocketplus so the SBSH solution looks to be cheaper at the moment.

How does Pocketinformant handle contacts? Is it as simple as just scrolling the wheel to get to the first letter of a contact quickly? Does it have a one handed T9 input method for contacts or do you need to use one of the stylus input methods?

Guess first step will be to try Tengo products since they are free with Plus!

Cheers Steve, that looks like it does the job too. I will see what the trials of these various things are like and see which does the job I want the best for the least cash.

I'd use the VoiceTags - I'm getting quite into those. Ok, you probably won't be able to get it to work with all your contacts, and it's a bit rubbish with urban city noises in the background, but I still find it the most intuitive way of dialling for most of the time!

If you've had problems to me before, try this: Instead of just recording "Bob", for example, try "Bob Smith Mobile" or "Bob Smith Work".

If you record VoiceTags for your 20 most-called contacts that will probably cover you for 95% of the time, and it's pretty reliable.

Unfortunately I don't call more than a handful of contacts regularly and I also either work in a quiet office or am in a noisy environment.

Tried Tengo Thumb last night and whilst it does write directly in the contacts lookup it still does the same as phonepad in that the T9 it uses is that inbuilt into its dictionary it doesn't T9 the contacts list.

Seen a few reports of SPB products borking phones so think I might try Pocket Informant first when I get the chance.

Just tried Pocket Informant. Not sure how this improves the contact lookup though? Seems identical to the default WM5 method?

Also, doesn't seem to work with the scroll wheel at all!

I think the only danger with SPB diary etc. is if they're installed on storage card rather than in main memory.

My Vario II had become very sluggish until I uninstalled SPB diary (was in main memory). Now the vario 2 is much faster without it.

PS I can highly recommend Inesoft Address Book, as mentioned in a previous post. It makes finding contacts a piece of cake becuse it uses a T9 type keyboard and searches every field.

I still need a decent SPB diary alternative that doesn't slow my machine. I'm going to give SBSH breeze a try . Any thoughts?

I haven't tried SBSH Pocket breeze, but I Launcher gives me no problems. Having said that SPB Diary didn't slow my machine down (unless you count an extra second or two delay in loading the today screen after a soft reset).

Tried Inesoft and it does do exactly what I wanted, although I had to turn off its callerID function as it stopped me being able to answer a call with the phone locked!

But...........I found out that using the phone app rather than contacts does EXACTLY what I need. That is T9 lookup with the on screen keyboard and single press dialling. Don't know how I didn't clock this before.

Update: I tried SBSH breeze but didn't like it very much. Slylusless navigation wasn't very practical and it's not as well laid out as SPB diary.

I've re-installed SPB diary and so far it has had no affect on performance this time (other than an additional 0.5 second to load the today screen). Fingers crossed that it stays that way.
