So is there any way to prevent programs from staying on when you exit out of them?
A few things I've installed recently have exit options, but ALL the programs that came with the phone seem to minimize when I exit them, so over time more and more programs are running in the background. It's pretty annoying, since this phone doesn't really have the power to run internet explorer, calendar, the camera program, etc. all at once. Is there an option somewhere to stop this from happening? I'm also interested in finding a better email solution for this thing. I have the Gmail java program so I can check my account automatically pretty easily, but I'd like to have it automatically tell me when I get messages... Is this possible? Whenever I try to set up "my email" through the phone's menus it says I need to sign up (and presumably pay extra) through tmobile's data plan. The whole reason I bought this phone is that it has Wifi so I don't need a data plan... Is there a better program I can download to interface my phone with my email easier? So is there any way to prevent programs from staying on when you exit out of them? Select Start and navigate to Task Manager. Select Menu>Stop All. Haven't tested smartskey on the s620, if it works on the SDA and 3125, I think it would work the Dash too. It will eliminate the need to manually go into Task Manager all the time. I would make sure your WIFI settings are correct (in Connections), if you can surf the web thru it by now, you can check you email too and set it up to how often to check for new messages. If you want push mail, you'll have to sign up for that with a data plan. -------------------- All these contraptions, so little time.

It will eliminate the need to manually go into Task Manager all the time. Selecting 'stop all' does only that --it stops all programs. That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid having to do all the time. I want my programs to end themselves when I exit them, not secretly stay open in the background, building up to an eventual lockup after enough of them are on at once. Is "smartskey" some sort of downloadable program that does this? I was sort of hoping someone would say "there is a secret keystroke to cause programs to close instead of minimize. Just hit *X*." Doesn't anyone else have this problem? |

Doesn't anyone else have this problem? Unfortunately it is not a "problem" it is just the way that Windows Mobile handles programs. As far as anyone knows there is no way within standard windows of changing it. There are, however, various programs that can change the behaviour of the "X" button and make it into a true exit button. I will refrain from recommending anything specific since I do not have the same device as you. I am sure that an Excalibur owner can help you out there. -------------------- |

As stated above, that’s just the way WM is meant to work. If you go into task manager you can kill apps individually too (not the answer you are looking for I know)
While it’s a bit annoying, if you notice when you go into messaging for the 1st time after restarting your phone it takes a fair few seconds to open up, but from then on (until you force quit messaging or restart your phone) messaging opens up almost instantaneously. That’s because it was already running in the background. The same applies for all other apps. One thing that should be happening, if available RAM falls to low WM will start to shut down apps itself. I just started up camera, IE, calendar, an excel doc, contacts and didn't notice any real lag on the phone. I wonder is some app you're running hogging memory? hth gr -------------------- 1111100111
