If you setup a device lock pin code for the phone and set it to say 60 mins to prompt for the pin, everytime you keypad lock by holding the red button down and then try to unlock it'll ask for the password and doesn't show you the time and date. V.annoying

Yep, that's how I remember mine working
You could always install something like xBar which puts a clock on the top of the screen

Negative, at least not with WM2003 Smartphone.

I set my iMate Smartphone 2 to lock the device after 60mins of inactivity. I could unlock the phone with MENU+# any time up until that 60mins. After this it asked for the password.

I think it is a change in behaviour.

Actually makes more sense to me tongue.gif

Exactly! It's a change in behaviour that I understand but I used to just tap the unlock button to get the time and date up and then after 60mins it would ask for password. I've always used it to quickly check the time whilst standing at a bus stop or something. Damn annoying that they change stuff like this.

Agreed, very annoying. So how does one activate the keypad lock without invoking the phone lock with a password?

I think that is the change in WM6.

If you press the power button briefly, you'll see that where there used to be 2 types of lock, there is now only one.

Makes more sense, but yes, shame it doesn't show the time on that screen.

Again this proves that the Windows Mobile team doesn't listen to its users and is more concerned with keeping up with RIM.

Year after year the team updates stuff which irritates the hell out of us and never adds in basic things we ask for. It's getting beyond a joke now, they'll never beat RIM with this attitude.

Why?

Having 2 types of lock is illogical and confusing for most users.

It wasn't really 2 types of lock before. You'd hold the red button and it would lock the keypad and then after a defined period of time (60 mins for me) it would device lock it. This was perfect. In the mean time you could unlock it freely and still see the time until the 60 mins had passed.

Now we have 1 type of lock that has a "prompt if device unused for" setting which is totally useless if you set it for a period of time because as soon as you keypad lock this device locks the whole thing! This new lock also renders the unlock clock useless too. If that's not illogical and confusing for most users then I'm not sure what is!
