I'm coming back to Windows Mobile after 3 years on BlackBerry devices, so I'm still learning the newer versions of Windows Mobile, but I've hit a roadblock. On my BJ2, I can hit the Up/Down volume keys while the phone is ringing (whether it's a vibrate or ring), and it'll silence the tone/stop the vibration. The same is not true for notifications (SMS or Voicemail). I can't hit anything to silence the tone, it just plays out to completion.

Normally, this isn't a problem for me, but I'm on call for a week every 5 weeks, and I need a longer-playing tone for SMS messages to make sure it actually wakes me up. During the day though, it can be a killer, because my 30 second SMS notification can't be silenced. I look pretty silly in the middle of a meeting because I can't silence this shiny new toy. LOL smile.gif

Am I missing something? Is this possible via a 3rd party program? I tried PhoneAlarm a few days ago because a homescreen I used required it, but it caused more problems than anything. Some alerts wouldn't work at all.

Any suggestions for a born-again WM junkie? smile.gif

jpwoof, thanks for the suggestion, but that doesn't exactly acheive what I'm aiming for. Your suggestion simply removes the SMS tone. I just want to be able to hit a button while the alert is playing to silence it (for example, I don't want to look like a moron in a meeting not able to silence his ringing phone.

I ran into this same problem and could only get it to NOT play a sound was when I went into the main IM screen whre it says Select your IM service: (This was achieved by hitting menu and then back a couple of times.) Then, once you have you IM network of choice highlighted just hit menu and then settings and uncheck the box that says Sound Notification. I was going crazy trying to figure this out because I was in a restaurant getting sounds over and over even after turning the phone on silent lol. I hope this helps. This also may not be what you are looking for though sad.gif

I highly recommend giving PhoneAlarm another try. I'm using it on my BJ2 for the homescreen functionality but found that the profiles and auto-switching between them is exactly what I needed for when I'm on call. PA controls the volume, tones, etc. just the way I need it to ensure I get SMS in the middle of the night or missed calls. I will say that it did take some with with PA to figure it all out but it's highly customizable and gets regular updates to make it even better. I put in a suggestion to enhance it in the future by overriding that annoying 3-button unlock sequence on the BJ2, 2-buttons on everything else. I want a one-button unlock.

sorry for the newbie thread revival on this - but this is my exact issue as well... is there no way to have an extended notification sound STOP once it starts?

This is such a let down for me because my old palm Treo did not have any problem recognizing that I acknowledged the alert. I want my sms/mms notifications to work just like a ringtone where it will play until I hit a button or something.

Here's my problem... sometimes I will not be able to hear a simple 2 second "ding-dong" or whatever, but a 2 minute midi song I will usually hear eventually. But if I do hear it in the first 5 seconds I don't want to hear the rest of the stupid alert.

I was thinking of trying PhoneAlarm, but really was hoping there was a simple (non-3rd-party) way to let WM6 recognize that I got the alert... (I NEED the sound... just need it to stop once I acknowledge it.)

If there is no other fix, could someone confirm that PhoneAlarm will stop the sound once it starts for sms/mms notifications?

Thanks
