Cingular/ATT is capable of blacklisting IMEIs afaik, but I don't know if they will.

As far as tracking it, again, if ATT won't do it, then there's really nothing you can do.

In the uk, if your house gets burgled and your phone is stolen, the police won't even track your phone to get your goods back!

Afraid its the Network Providers that are the problem here. They CAN track stolen phones- the police use it for "life at risk" situations eg. missing persons or Serious crime (subject to RIPA/RIPSA regs). It does however cost a fortune. The CSP (Communication Service Providers ie Networks) charge the Police for this service depending on how quickly they want it. Charges vary from about £100 to £500. So can it be done?-yeah easily. Is it cost effective?- probably not.
The CSPs are verging on negligent in the way they write off equipment. Its not hard for them to cut mobile phone crime but there is a distinct lack of will- afterall a stolen phone = a new sale. Similiar to cars in the 90s- so easy to steal until immobilisers came in following consumer pressure, now virtually impossible without a true key. Consumer pressure is the only ay things are going to change so start chapping those emails out!

When you get your new phone there are some programs out there that can help. I firget their names at the moment but you should be able find them easily.
Generally they work by running in the background, monitoring incoming SMS. When your phone goed missing, you send a code to it via SMS that activates the program. It either 'bricks' the phone, or sends a reply SMS giving location info at regular intervals. Some will also 'brick' the phone if a different SIM card is put in without a 'passcode'.
No help with your current loss(sorry Mate) but helpfull in the future.

definnately will help in the future. im getting one with the insurance, its a courtsey cingular doesnt infsur this phone. either way i want to make a program that will send the messages when a new sim is inserted that will run in the back ground. i was planning it alaready. but sadly i can only do pseudo code, caus ei cant program. i can tyoe up the psuedo code then some else can make the program. it would be help ful, here what i see in short

checks ur sim, wrong sim from previous input(maybe and check by phone number) then sends what number is currently using it, location at the time every about huor. Also maybe even text 911. this is not the psuede just idea, if u want i can make a whole thing for this like menus and all that, like a plan.

i no in america the only reason they wont track is beasose of law, and since , like u said no one is at risk police cant do much. The cops get it done for free only for the risky things, but not for one case. although i am gonna tryo one more time. making a case out of a huge numbre of phones stolen, im so pissed about that. anyways the way they track the phone is by ping. NO LIE ITS AS SIMPLE AS PING AND ALL ASSOCIATED COMMANDS. what asses huh. either way im trying like i said one mroe time. my replacement is due this week.

Congratulations on obtaining a new phone from Cingular! And kudos to them for such an enlightened attitude and helping out as best they can. We seldom seem to have much to thank them for!
Good luck with your programming. Let me know if it works and I may be your first customer.

There's a program called terminator for locking and locating stolen phones:
http://www.spritesoftware.com/

It's $15 but you can find a %15 off coupon for new customers. (I recently purchased their backup lite program)

you can get a cheaper program for 7 bucks. and i really dont want to brick my phone, rather find it. either way the author of star enforcer said it should be compaitable with our phones. so ill wait for the software.

DONT! Under any circumstances use Star Enforcer. It essentially bricked my blackjack II. I can't turn it off even without taking out the battery. A hard reset might work, but that's a lot of programs....I don't even remember what all I had on it. ActiveSync doesn't work either. Hard reset aside, my phone is a brick.

it never bricked it, you over reacted. just restart your phone, by pulling out the battery (make sure its not plugged into power). then uninstall it. a BRICK is when ur phone doesnt funtion at all. what he had was that it froze lol
it happens smile.gif

Well I guess that answers the question of whether it works for WM6. Too bad, I liked the idea. Perhaps they will update it soon.

Sorry it didn't work out for you!
