Device(s): Samsung BlackJack II

My company just got me a AT&T BlackJack II (i617). I had purchased Microsoft Voice Command US PPC 1.60 for M2M from Handango for a previous Treo with Windows Mobile and it worked fine. I reinstalled it to my laptop and when I tried to do a sync to install it on my phone I get that the phone is not supported and it will not install, what am I doing wrong? huh.gif

The Treo-Windows Mobile Frankenphones ran on what used to be called "Pocket PC", now Windows Mobile Professional. The BJs (I & II) run Windows Mobile Standard. In old-speak, the Treos were Pocket PCs and the BJs are Smartphones.

MSVC is platform specific, so your Treo(ie Pocket PC) version won't work on the BJ. You'll have to shell out for the WM Standard version. It sucks, but there's no way around it. IMHO, The Collective needs to fix this sort of nonsence and start selling a single program that will install the appropreate version to whatever phone you own. wacko.gif They created this messy architecture, and the cost of new programs is a real disincentive to upgrading devices.

OK, off my soapbox. angry.gif Before you go out and tithe to MS yet again, note that the BJII doesn't support all of the features of VC, so you may not get the experience you are used to or find valuable. blink.gif Look thru this forum and you will see several threads on the topic.

IMHO, the main issues are that it's difficult to launch the application from the buttons on the BJ2. There are a number of workarounds that are more or less appealing depending on how technically savvy you are. Some are very easy to implement, like assigning VC to one of the single-digit speed-dials, but it's a matter of opinion whether you want to do this. Another big issue for some people is that while it CAN be launched and used from a BT headset, it doesn't route announcements thru the headset.

I loved VC on my other phones, but I use it only rarely on the BJII because of those limitations. The exception is that it's a great thing of you are making calls while driving. Depending on what and where you liked to use it before, it might be an expensive dissappointment to have to buy the program twice, and then have it not work as advertised.

Caveat Emptor baby!

Hope this was helpful. biggrin.gif

THANKS that explained everything. The only feature I really want is to be able to push 1 button and speak the name or phoen number to dial, all the rest of the capabilities are of no consequence to me. What bugs me is not being able to push the call button on my bluetooth earpiece and speak the dialing commands! I will probably wait a few weeks before doing anything....thanks again!

I should have been clearer. You CAN just press the call buttom on your BT earpiece and speak the dialing commands. VC will talk back to you over ht eheadset if it needs confirming info, depending on your VC settings.

What DOESN'T come over the BT link are the notifications of calender events, incoming messages or emails etc.

That's why I do keep it on the phone, as it's still a better way to place call swhile driveing.

Hope I'm clear thsi time.

Just pair the devices together, and press the call button on your headset, the phone should then ask you for you to say the name you want to call. you will have to add voice dial tags to your contacts though

Sorry but the Voice Tags is not how Voice Command works, it is supposed to recognize your words and find the contact or the numbers as in dial 6 7 8 etc.

Now my problem is the SOMETIMES it recognizes and sometimes not.....What a PAIN

Assuming the issue isn't with the names themselves (I presume these worked fine on your Treo) You are probably running into the microphone gain problem.

For no good reason, WM Standard doesn't allow you to adjust the gain on the microphone like on WM "Professional". wacko.gif

This has NOTHING to do with having a touchscreen, and is probably the product of some double-pithed Marketing genius "differentiating" between the two platforms. Don't let the facts confuse us (there is NO difference between the platforms! I am very much a "Professional" and I DON'T use a touchscreen!), we'll just keep on doing this for no good reason.

Lord knows why MS doesn't fix this, but we're stuck.

So all you can do is try adjusting the Headset position. If it has a gain adjustment, then fiddle with ti to increase accuracy.

Good luck!

What headset or earpice do you use with your BJII? I have a Plantronics Voyager 520 and an older Plantronics Voyager 510 and same problem on both...I would be open to buying a different earpice if I knew one that worked.... smile.gif

A Motorolla HS850 for the most part, and a Motorolla S9 sterio headset when I want to listen to music.

Both work fine.

Good luck!

I had a HS850 a while back and loved it, never had any problems at all just wish it got a little louder and the rubber ear gasket finally tore and I was told my Motorola it was not a replaceable item! Figures....I used it until the mic went bad then went with the Voyager 510 because it got LOUD.....I see on ebay the prices on 850s are down, so can I assume you dont have the issues of the voice recognition not recognizing you? That is all I want to be able to push, say call........ or dial......... say yes or correct and let it go....Thats cool with your 850 and BJII??????
By the way THANKS for the help and advice!!!!!
