I know this question has been asked before. I ask again only because I don't recall anybody actually ever posting that they got it to work. My question is, has anybody actually gotten the blackjack II (straight from AT&T) to work with tethering, ON A REGULAR, NON-TETHERING DATA PLAN?

Also, what does everyon reccomend as far as data usage? Does anybody know the actual limit?

Tethering is actually very easy. Once upon a time, it was possible to tether without a at&t tether plan, but now it is necessary. So, step one, get a tethering plan.
Once you have a tethering plan, all that remains is to download and install at&t communications mangager. http://www.wireless.att.com/businesscenter...re.jsp#comm-mgr

As I said, I don't think it's possible anymore to tether without a tethering plan. As far as data usage, I use unlimited. I have been using tethering through my phone as my main source of internet, and as I am an internet junkie, I need unlimited.

Actually that's not true....you can use ICS from your phone to share the data from device to PC. On HowardForums this has been discussed and there is no way that AT&T can monitor how your connected....they can only speculate (heavy usage). So get yourself a good data plan....as when you use ICS either via bluetooth or USB youll be connected. This was the primary reason people worked on getting ICS working on this phone....to cut out the tethering plan from AT&T...thats why AT&T left it out of the custom ROM.....to suck you as dry as a prune.

Many forums state the disgust from people regarding AT&T on this issue...the link above adresses the issue....read it and use it.

Many have asked..."do I need a tethering plan to browse the internet on my laptop with AT&T?"......NO..you do not.

If you have a standard data plan....you can share it!!!! The file from the thread in the link downloads as a calender file...change the file extension to ".cab"
