There are a number of things you need in place to use Active Sync with Exchange. On the phone, you need to have the correct security certificate installed (usually available by right clicking on the login page for remote access). To access the server, you will need to give the phone the OWA address for the server - usually in the format https://servername.domain.com/owa, plus of course your user name and password. The likelihood is that your college will have locked out mobile activesync access, but I could be wrong.

If the contacts are all you want, why not simply open up outlook and save the contacts out as a .pst file. Then log on to the local machine (ie without logging on to the domain) and load the contacts in to a non-exchange connected copy of outlook. then Sync.

Hope that helps

In my earlier post, I should have explained that you need to copy the certificate to your device and then find it in file explorer and click on it to install it on your device...good luck
