Anyone knows how to do it?

Thanks

I have a long story to tell about this PDA.

I bought it for the first time in February 2008, at the time it was the best on the market.
After 2, 3 days of use I noticed that it was cracking at the two lower corners. As an equipment with a manufacturing defect can to be exchanged during the first 15 days, I returned to the store where I bought it for the exchange. They came with another (the second) cracking too.

Then I move to another shop of the same seller (to 50 km away) and they came with another one (the third) cracking too.

Finally I move to another shop of the same seller (to 25 km away) and they came with another one (the fouth) cracking too.

After to spend much time and diesel. I gave up.

The sellers on the shops look at my phone with suspicion, thinking it was my fault, but when they unbox the others, they became embarrassed. They gave me back my money.

On March 2008, I tried again. I unbox the phone on the shop in front of the seller and it was OK, no cracking corners, and I bought it once more (the fiveth). At my home, I tried to turn it on but it doesn't work. A software problem! Damn it.

I came back to the shop and they came with another (the sixth). This one, again, has no cracking corners but when I tried to turn it on, it doesn't work. The same software problem. And I gave up.

At July 2008, I bought it again (the seventh). I unbox the phone on the shop in front of the seller and it was OK, no cracking corners, and this time, I turn it on too (placing the battery, you know). It was OK. Finally.

Until now it was fine.

About the cracking corners I study the case with the seller and our thoery is that the T9 screws were tightened with extra force. May be the machine on the line mountig was uncalibrated (no quality assurance). Once cracking (even a little bit, barely seen), cracking forever, getting worse by temperature (dillatation) or vibrating calls.

Now I'm exploring it almost for the first time. By now I think this phone is the best on the market quality (many features in one) versus price. Not any more the best. May be the TyNT II. After all, the acelerometer is missing.

Ok, first u must install sktools and in the windows startup options disable all the icons that u can see on tray, like launch network, etc etc
The only one that stays because there are no option in sktools to disable is the rotationTray.
Go to registry and in this path:

HKLM\Services\ACS

in the RotationTray, change from 4 to 0

Tray bar gone!!!

I just got my P750 back from Expansys.

They have indeed fixed the case, so there are no cracks in it.

Unfortunately, they broke something else. mad.gif

The 'voice' button above the scroll wheel no longer works at all. It doesn't even click, so it's obviously a mechanical problem.

I suspect that the repairer didn't put the case back on properly, so the button can't operate.

It's pretty shoddy really. Even a rudimentary post-repair test would've found this. I noticed it about 3 seconds after I switched the unit on.

I'm still going to get Expansys to fix it, but I'm moving on. mad.gif

Today I received my P750 back from this SECOND repair.

Guess what? The device is absolutely trashed. There is now a gaping hole next to the voice record button. There are a couple of cracks in the case, as well as some gouge marks.

I've told Expansys that I'm not prepared to put up with this any more. Why should I have to keep paying to send the device back for repair when they keep breaking it? How long do they think I'm supposed to wait before I get a working non-trashed device?

I've demanded a refund, and told them that I'm prepared to escalate if they refuse.

Luckily, I opened the package at work, so I have two witnesses who can confirm that the device was in this terrible state as soon as I took it out of the box.

I was already pretty annoyed with Expansys. Now they have lost all my future business. And I bought a lot of kit from them in the past.

Am I doing something wrong? I really love this phone, but I would hate not being able to use the letters on the keypad.

What firmware do you have Rosie74? US-version?

I have a similar problem. I installed the latest UK Rom from asus and now the keypad works but the letters that come up do not relate to the keys e.g. if I press 5 Gives an O, 9 gives a K etc. Is there a simple fix to this that anyone knows?

Tony

I've got the Asus P750 now for almost 2 weeks as an upgrade for my HTC S710. I've installed only apps such as Opera, TomTom 7 + Western Europe, Skype, TCPMP, etc. I've got the WM6.1 update on it.

However there some small problems:
- GPS fix only outside, my bluetooth GPS worked also inside buildings and trains and this is a SirfStar III? (not a problem actually)
- My Asus get's charged each day because after a day the battery is completely empty. Usage: couple of phone calls!
- Charging my Asus trough direct power doesn't works effective. After a night charging, the indicator says just 64%. When charging on USB is applied, then it works well?!
- Battery indicator is missing on my homebar!

Just to keep you all up to date...

I returned my P750 to Expansys on August 22, so they could give me a refund. I enclosed a detailed letter explaining the history and the problems.

By September 22, I still hadn't heard anything, so I emailed them to ask what was happening.

They replied the next day, and asked for the Post Office tracking number. I immediately sent it to them.

By September 27, I hadn't heard anything, so I emailed again to ask what was going on.

Today (October 6), I still haven't had a reply, so I have informed Expansys that I will be taking legal action.

An update...

Apparently the MD at Expansys saw my blog post, and got involved. I had a long phone call today from Expansys, in which their guy apologised profusely for their handling of the problem, and they issued a full refund.
