I left the pub last night to see the H symbol appear by the O2 network icon (on new Orbit 2) - I checked the download speeds (dslreport.com/mspeed) and repeatedly seeing downloads of 1900kb/s biggrin.gif . Its remained for the day here in Edinburgh, all round the city! Customer services know nothing about this improved service.

Anyone know if this is just a trial or here to stay?

Also is this a fair test compared to running the same download test on the PC (extra compression?) via broadband?

Considering I get free web and walk on the 40 quid tarriff and they claim to have upped the fair usage to unlimited, it seems I'm getting a good service. biggrin.gif Though it does appear 3G is restricted to around 117kb/s.

unless you are on a business contract then hsdpa is limited....

to around 12 - 16k

I was getting 50kish for a week in bristol but now its slipped back again.

I keep getting the same excuse from o2, its the amount of people on there etc....

maybe they will relax the limits as other networks are offering alot faster service.

if you want to go faster then it looks like you will have to buy a usb modem and pay the £15.00 a month.....

Very pleased to say two months on and the HSDPA network is still active and very fast here all round Edinburgh. Just tried 5 tests using dslreports/mspeed (opera mini 4.1) and got the following:

1205kbit/s, 354kbit/s, 1627kbit/s, 1049kbit/s, 1411kbit/s

All seems very fast to me biggrin.gif and pleased to say the web pages fly in.

I'm NOT on a business contract and there's no sign of the network limiting the speed.

Love the Orbit 2 (HTC Touch Cruise) though the rubber ring on the jog wheel peeled off, and really love Opera as a browser.

I was fed up with my GPRS data browsing speeds on my Touch Dual which I thought was due to lack of a business data connection. I then I found out that I needed to update my SIM Card as my SIM was four years old.

Since then, my phone has mainly been working at HSDPA speeds in Liverpool and Warrington, which I can use for high speed internet sharing on my laptop via the USB cable. I will need to be careful to avoid exceeding a "fair usage limit".

I guess the O2 HSDPA upgrade has come in time for the new iPhone release this summer.

I'm in Aberdeen and the best I can get out of my monthly O2 contract with an HTC Touch Dual is 150 kbit/sec. No where near what your getting down in Edinburgh!

Got to say it's a s*** load better than the usual 3G 25 kbit/sec I'm used to! huh.gif
