Not sure if this is the place for it, but... I've got a thought. The solution to one of Windows Mobile's biggest problems. ROM updates are great and add many features, but are often hard to locate. However, AppToDate provides over the air flashing. I believe we should push to have HTC and other makers, and even Microsoft themselves, put AppToDate into EVERY ROM, either set up to check for ROM update's weekly or something or you could sign up for an email with each new one. This would mean that updates were sent easily and with minimum fuss, and available in one place. And, since every phone would have it on, many more developers would be likely to support it. It would quite possibly become a standard for Windows Mobile software. In the long run, perhaps it would be possible to create something similar to the app store, but that's not as important. I'm sure Paul would be perfectly happy having AppToDate used like this. I think we should work to try and make it a standard part of Windows Mobile Using AppToDate instead of Microsofts "Autoupdate" would be great! And getting manufacturers to use it would be even better. However, how would one get Microsoft to actually listen, or do anything about it? (If someone from Microsoft, HTC or any other WM device reads this, I mean no disrespect! I've been thinking about trying to write a basic equivalent to AppStore, but AppToDate, with it's ability to read the XML files is a lot closer than what I've got to. If there was some way to load all AppToDate XML files into a central "bank" or get AppToDate to know where each and every XML file is stored, you could add an extra couple of lines in like CODE <author></author> <catagory></catagory> and get AppToDate to allow searching, and sorting of the programs through those tags. -------------------- |

Yeah, if we can combine AppToDate with some kind of database of free applications that the software can access... we might have WIN on our hands

My psychic prediction: it'll never happen

I know it's not terribly likely and certainly not easy, but it's still a thought

Hmmm, looks like a Resco Explorer problem, I see nothing after that!

It's only got stats for it, as I was attempting to add support my self (with A_Cs blessing!) but it hasn't got that far as the cab always gets messed up! -------------------- |

SKTools etc. do tho!
That said, I can't find the SKTools XML, I have a fear that it's been removed from the registry somehow by something! P -------------------- Paul O'Brien - Microsoft MVP, Mobile Devices, MoDaCo.network Founder. Check out my Blog! £10 off a £20 spend at eXpansys - click for details |

P Is this replay ment to me? if so, I've deleted apptodate.lastcheck.xml to force the AppToDate to recreate it... EDIT: And now: keep getting FAILED for the three app listed (AppToDate, Registry add-in for resco, resco explorer) This post has been edited by DMagician: Aug 21 2008, 12:56 |

I have a problem with phoneAlarm Pro 2.05.87 and Diamond TF3D Config 0.6.7.1 in AppToDate Both programs are installed (stated versions) but AppToDate keeps telling me there's a new version available. The new version however, has the exact same versionnumber as the version installed. Even if I download and install the new version via AppToDate, it keeps notifying me of the "newer" version. Is this a known problem and is there a solution to this? I have the same problem. Is there any way to stop it downloading with other updates? I've tried unticking it but it won't untick. The download caused problems with my programs tab on TF3D but I assume this problem is caused by the update not AppToDate. I have posted the problem in the Diamond TF3D Config forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread...749&page=83 -------------------- Orange Touch Diamond (Official OrangeUK ROM: 1.93.405.1 WWE, Radio: 1.00.25.05)

The program was a good idea, but has turned out to defeat it's own purpose -- you have to check after using it to see if it has downloaded the updates. It all winds up more confusing than just checking for updates yourself

[quote name='Paul (MVP)' post='887046' date='Apr 3 2008, 12:20']If you would like to download the AppToDate BETA (and it should be very clearly stressed this is Beta atm!), then use the following CAB:
http://donald.modaco.com/apptodate/apptodate.cab AppToDate is, of course, self updating, so you should theoretically only need to download the CAB once! For ROM chefs, there is also an OEM package that is updated in line with the main CAB: http://donald.modaco.com/apptodate/apptodate.oem.zip This is untested however (as I don't generally cook ROMs), so please let me know if it works What does the apptodate do - it went to check for updates, etc but I 'dont understand what I need to do next to get the nodata file/program to update too if it's supposed to. Sorry, don't mean to be stupid, but I don't understand...duhh This post has been edited by MotoMamma: Sep 22 2008, 20:10 |
