Okay, this is one of those really stupid questions that I should have asked/read about in the manual a long time ago, but, I didn't, I don't know the answer, and it's really bugging me now.
Here goes: most of the time my Kaiser is in standby, it wakes up when I have a call coming in or some other notification etc, just as you'd expect. That's fine. The problem is, once it's woken up like that, it remains woken for the next couple of minutes until it goes back to sleep. That can be a problem if it's in my pocket, where its screen can be touched, and it can start sending rude messages to my boss or whatever without me knowing about it. So the simple, stupid question is this - how do I make sure the screen and buttons are locked when it brings itself out of standby like this? There doesn't seem to be any setting in WM itself that will do this, which surprises me. I guess there might be something third party, but what do people recommend? I'd rather it wasn't locked all the time - eg, if I press the on button to bring it out of standby myself, I don't then want to faff around unlocking the screen as well. I know this is probably a daft, newbie, question... just hoping someone will be kind... This post has been edited by Boinng: May 1 2008, 16:13 |

There's not a way to do this that I'm aware of.
Unless you chose the "lock/unlock" function. Or Install Slide2Unlock (similar to iphone) Or Reducing the time taken for the pin code to be entered. Pressing the power button will only turn off the screen, and lock all the other keys. -------------------- --

Well a simple solution would be to press the side button to put it to sleep. easy enough, right? -------------------- Kevin

He's already doing that, the problem is when he gets a text that wakes the screen up, making it press-able again. He sometimes doesn't notice that the text or whatever has come in

I've got password/PIN number setup, if I get a txt/voice message and I choose to ignored it, it won't unlock unless I manually unlock it by dialling my PIN number.

Hmm.. I guess there isn't an obvious answer, I really don't want to have to enter a pin every time I use the phone (and I know that can cause problems with the screen freezing after calls on the Kaiser anyway) and slide2unlock seems a little overblown.. maybe I should try it though.
Thanks all (apart from the guy who suggested I just press the standby button again, who didn't read my post!) |

I'm using a different phone (Ipaq 614c) but have found the potential for the same thing with the screen coming on and texting "gjiopeuoyf683kjbf03762bvgjk ukwtfsd" to the first person it can find in the contacts list.
I installed slide2unlock (I don't remember how light this app is but it didn't bother me when I installed it) and the problem was solved. Text comes in > Screen comes on (it remains locked) > The message/email/voicemail/IM icon updates > Screen goes off again. When you actually want to send rude text messages to your boss you press the 'sleep' button (or whatever you have on a Kaiser), slide your finger across the screen and all is well. |

PIN is an acronym for Personal Identification Number, so you don't need to say number twice. Sorry didn't mean to be the grammar police -------------------- -PDTP

Sorry didn't mean to be the grammar police Yes, you're right...I knew what it stand for but I really don't know why I typed "number" again (should've known better as I work within eduaction), I'll concentrate and make sure I don't make the same mistake again. Thank you for pointing this out Pdtp. -------------------- Mr D Alom

Ummm, back on topic, I think battery status does this doesn't it? Options -> tools -> tick Device lock on wakeup That sounds ideal but I don't have anything like that in my battery settings - just a menu which points to backlight, and then from backlight back to power again. Or is "Battery status" something else, some third party software? I don't really want to turn off notifications, because then I wouldn't get any, well, notifications... I did try Slide2Unlock, but really wasn't keen at all. It really seems overcomplicated for what I want - I'm not trying to turn my phone into an Iphone, which is basically what that does, and I hate the whole fake-today-screen approach it uses. It also failed the first basic test by allowing a missed call notification to flash up after I'd deliberately missed a call, even though it was supposedly "locked" at the time. I don't know if it was a bug or some wrong setting somewhere, but either way I lost faith! |

Why not just lock the phone before you put it away in your pocket? it locks all the keys except the power button, the only problem that i could see happening is that if the phone rings it still has the chance to answer the call wile locked, but you will nvr send any text messages nor call any1 by accident.
