S730 vs. SPV C500 Questions |

I currently own the SPV C500 and have been considering the S730 but am wary of it's size & weight.
I have a few questions please: 1. I presume the S730 is the latest HTC Smartphone with a Qwerty keyboard? 2. How much bigger is the S730 to the SPV C500? 3. How much more does the S730 weigh to the SPV C500? 4. Is the battery life comparable to the SPV C500? I've looked up online the last three questions but I'd like to hear some "real world" answers, as looking at a bunch of measurements and weights never gives me a "true" reflection of a product. Regarding the size: I wouldn't want the S730 if for example it was the same size as the SPV E200. It needs to comfortably fit in a jeans pocket with wallet. Thanks |

Hi bradavon. I was looking into this phone as well. Mods, my apologies if this is not allowed, but here is a good site.
http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacomparer It gives you a ability to compare phones. C500 46.2 x 107.5 x 17.5 millimetres 103 gramms S730 51 x 105.8 x 19.4 millimetres 150 gramms So there is a bit of size and weight difference. |

It seems that the size is virtually the same, so not worth worrying about but the weight maybe an issue, still as the S730 is much newer it maybe worth living with. I was more concerned about the size than weight. |

Thanks 1: Yes, the only previous being the non 3g s710, with which it does actually share a battery, which is surprising with HTC these days. 2: Quite a bit bigger *and chunkier* by which I mean the c500 always felt nice and slim. The s730 doesn't. 3: Answered by another poster. Bit of a brute actually. 4: Thankfully yes if you only make voice calls. Data / 3g video calling eats it up quite quickly. One final observation of my own - the plastic of the s730 feels a little cheap and seems to mark quite easily ( mine does anyway) so don't be expecting the 'feel' of a c500 :-( The s710 was a bit too flaky-rubberised for my liking ( similar to the samsung d600 etc) and the s730 is better but it's still plastic with a faux-metal piece stuck around the screen. Overall I actually like it. Until HTC do another candybar phone like the sp5m it'll be my smartphone of choice for a while. That and my pink StrTrk.... M.S |

I was more concerned about the size than weight. Actually I think those specs are wrong. The s730 seems 'stubbier' and wider. Cr@p pic I know ( taken on some other HTC device) but gives you an idea. Stubbier and wider than the sleek c500.... m.s

The E200's battery really sucked. If you used Data all day would the battery be likely dead? What about if you only use it for say 30 mins a day? Most of the time I'll only make phone calls so am pleased the battery lasts as long as the C500 but would use Data/3G too. On the C500 I don't notice battery is effected when using Data but that is only GPRS though. Thanks again. p.s - Thanks for pics, it only looks a bit wider. I guess I need to hold one to see if the weight is an issue. What do Orange call the S730? I know they called the S710 the SPV E650. I can then ask to see one in their shop. No not as bad as an e200 but 3g data does suck it out faster than gprs so you could prolong it at the expense of transfer rate. Never really measured it as I have a car charger and various comps to tether to.
Dunno if orange are carrying this? I know o2 have announced it in black - looks better in that colour IMO. Seen the HTC version go for about £150 on fleabay or £300 eXpansys / devicewire et al. M.S |

Thanks again. That's good to hear about the battery being better than the E200. It sounds like it's fine.

I didn't know O2 locked phones too now  . I always make sure my phones are unlocked as I use other sims while abroad.

Just to add to this, I'd go for the older S710 if you don't need 3G, I found the keyboard was easier to use and the phone less chunky to hold and put in your pocket althought the dimensions are similar.

I think the official specs for the S730 are 51 x 105.8 x 19.4mm at 150g whereas the S710 is 50 x 102 x 19mm at 140g weight. The S730 feels much bulkier and that extra 10g weight makes all the difference when you have keys, change and fluff in your pocket  Personally, given the choice, I would go for a thinner, lighter, more svelte moby but with larger dimensions than an overall smaller moby that is thicker and heavier.If you're not too bothered about wifi take a look at the Samsung i640, this has 3G, a slide out Qwerty keyboard and is truly stunning handset for what it offers. At 61 x 97 x 17mm and only 128 grams, it's very pocketable and a real head turner Regards, DG |
