It has been five years since MameCE has last been updated and 1 1/2 years since PocketCultMame has last been updated. Being an owner of a Palm device as well, I have noticed a more recent update to a portable version of MAME called PalmMame. It is based on MameCE and a source code is available to anyone who wishes to port it back to the Windows Mobile platform. While I do not own a Smart Phone, I noticed that the Smart Phone crowd on these forums seem to enjoy games and post quite a bit on emulation. I have no programming talent whatsoever, but wondered if anyone with such talent and love for nostalgia would be interested in porting this back to WM. PalmMame works with sound and functions better than MameCE or PocketCultMame (no intended disrespect to the authors). Vilmos, who works on this project, has given the green light for anyone to port this back.
Just in case anyone is interested: http://www.pocketdimension.com/PalmMAME.html If anyone does work on this, hopefully you might include a non-Smartphone WM5/6 PPC version too. Those who love classic gaming would be eternally grateful. |

Be cool if someone advanced the code for MAME on WM5 & 6 devices. |

I see no benefit here, except for possibly a better designed front-end.
Both are based around the archaic MAME 0.36 format, and both seem to have their fare share of problems. Although, it's actually nice to see ANY pocket development. This forum, however, is as dead as a dodo. Filled lately with plebs asking mundane crap that can be answered by just READING the threads, rather than the lazy approach. Like I read on another PPC forum, the whole platform seems dead. I say bollox to the whole PPC crap, and get one of these http://www.oqo.com/intl/products/index.html or http://www.wibrain.com/ Both more than capable of running native PC emulators, including ePSXe, Project64, etc.. And no waiting for someone to bother to port to arm. Masterall, posts f*ckall, lately, so he's either not bothering, or is just bored with it all. Can't say I blame him. |

uh,interesting POV , imo.
emuscene IS dead on ppc, BUT PPC is not(now..). dead. you must be nuts, if you think that micropc is going to be only future lol. it is too expensive, its batteries are too weak.. optimal choice seems to be pspslim at this moment, what you think(besides, that my english is terrible..)? btw, this forum "may" look like dead lol ,but believe me, there are moar forums, alive...still alive. you must be nuts, if you think that micropc is going to be only future lol. it is too expensive, its batteries are too weak.. I know a few people who have purchased them, and they all agree that they are the future. We tried ePSXe, with Wipeout 3, and got a constant 60fps. This appeals to me, as I don't have to constantly mod it, or mess around with conversions. PSP ? Needs modding, not as fast CPU wise, no XP OS, not X86, needs coders to port code. Plus side, it's cheaper, better battery, got a good following, better to hold in hands. Not for me, personally. As for cost, look at the cost of PPCs a few years ago. My HP IPaq 2210 cost me £50 English pounds, and came with a 2Gb SD card + Cradle. When it first came out, it came with a 64Mb card, no cradle, and cost 6-times the price. For about £340, you get 4.8" WSVGA Touchscreen, 1.2GHz, 60GB HD, 1024MB RAM, 802.11b/g, Webcam. Thats almost the same price as a Ipaq 614, and I know what I would rather have. Battery life is no different from my Ipaq when overclocked to 533, around 3 hours tops when using emulators. These WILL get cheaper, faster, and more portable, over a given time. No dicking around with arm code, all x86 from here, and fully compatible with all the current x86 emulators. BTW, if you know of a "Alive" forum for PPC, then post a link |

It would be a bummer to see the emulation scene fade out. I don't think I'm the only nostalgic person who can't program out there. I am very appreciative to the programmers who had, for years, given us a way to enjoy the games we grew up with. As years pass, the games of nostalgia will be the newer games of today. Hopefully, there will still be those who will keep all the games of yesteryear alive. It will probably find its way commercially. It might be cheaper to keep a copy of Windows XP around as a dual boot system than to find newer emulation programs. Still, it's nice to have these games on my phone to occupy time while my wife shops.

BTW, if you know of a "Alive" forum for PPC, then post a link erm, i cannot post all links that i have.. but this is example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ - very good one, developers and fanatics area, but goddamn iphone trends are irritating there lately... this site gave me methods for making my own ROMs to Wizard outperforming anything, that you may see in "clean" machine. and two polish ones that i am using: http://forum.mobione.pl/ - i am moderator there... http://pdaclub.pl/forum/index.php - it is good polish forum there are russian fora's, very good ones...cannot give a links(heh).. aximsite is good one too... trust me, i doubt, that micropc's will kill ppc world - phonepc's are much more than phones, less than micropc's, tho. smaller, more mobile, wifi,bt enabled devices are a must, i hope... one more thing: i do not like smartphones, as these are NOT PPCs at all. btw, i have over 8 thousands links related to ppc world...name me a hobby-ist. btw, look there... --> pdadb.net ahh i forgot - psp has ability to launch psx games natively..i can imagine, that it is fullspeed, perfect thing. The PSP does indeed have that ability, but most psx games need some sort of conversion, or messing around with, ripping, etc.. On the wibrain, you can make use of the extra functions of ePSXe, such as save states, better gfx, etc.. It wont ever kill the PPC world, as I think you'll find it's more a Business device, than a hobby device. Thanks for the links, btw. |
