 changing default main menu icons on top: possible?

Does someone know a way to change the default main menu icons on the homepage...(Oportal,Contacts,mail,Calendar,CallsManager)...??? Those don't fit at all with most of the backgrounds you can try.....

at least I found this "simple" version (in settings you just choose "simple", it doesn't show icons anymore, for the good or the bad points)....with personal image.....
