Our Philippines member Brigoli has produced a little application to automatically remove the sound that occurs when selecting a contact in the new email/sms/mms screen.

for the complete original thread visit http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=65269.
here is the readme file so you can see what it does :
QUOTE
                      ReplaceSound
                      ~~~~~~~~~~~~
          -Mark Willmer (moo_ski_doo@yahoo.co.uk)
          ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This program replaces the 'WindowsDefault.wav' file with an
alternative blank wave file every time the phone starts up.
The effect of this is that anything that normally uses this
sound no longer makes a sound.  This is most noticable when
contacts are added to the 'to' field of an email or sms
message.

To install this program, copy the cab file to a directory on
your phone that you can get to easily (eg. the start menu) and
open the cab file with your phone.  This will copy a small
executable and wave file to IPSMProgram FilesReplaceSound
and will create a shortcut in IPSMWindowsStartup.  You will
need to either manually run IPSMProgram FilesReplaceSound
ReplaceSound.exe or restart your phone after installation.

To remove this program use Remove Programs in ActiveSync or
the Control Panel on your phone.

Note that this program will only run on app-unlocked phones.

Not heard of it not working before, wouldn't be too surprised if it didn't work on other Smartphones but it's been tried and tested on the SPV!

All I can suggest is making sure it's installed correctly by checking that all the files mentioned in Readme.txt are where they should be. The executable assumes 'Default.wav' has been successfully installed in to the folder 'IPSMProgram FilesReplaceSound' - if this is not the case it won't work. If something is amiss I can give you copies of the original files and you can install it manually (again, refer to Readme.txt to see where everything should go.)

Hope this helps.

-Mark.

Already checked that files were where they should be, and used file explorer and activesync to confirm this. Is it the click sound that should not play or am I getting confused I could try re-install to see if works..

Err... I wouldn't really call it a click. It's the loud cow-bell sound that plays when you click the action button in the 'To:' or 'Cc:' field of a new message. For whatever reason this sound doesn't change volume when you change profiles, so even if your phone's on silent this sound still plays loudly (unless you turn the earpiece volume down.) ReplaceSound should get rid of this sound altogether.

Could the same thing be done to replace the (very loud) "descending" tone when a caller hangs up on you?

This isn't the same problem so there's no need to fix it in this way. There's a much easier way to do it by tweaking the registry. Just go to 'HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelSounds' and delete the key 'CallDrop'. This should sort it.

There's another thread somewhere else on this site which has lots of useful registry tweaks like this, you might be interested in having a look. You should get there by clicking here: tweaks smile.gif

Yea, you're right, not in silent mode. I just hate that sound full stop. I hope the developer can tweak it to work with the E200 in all profiles.
