I am using Vista HP SP1 and Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 (WMDC). I use Outlook 2007 and up until recently I used POP3 which put e-mail in Personal Folders and all was good.

I now use IMAP and this puts mail in an entirely different PST file, nothing to do with Personal Folders. The trouble is WMDC (and I bet ActiveSync on 2000/XP too) doesn't let you choose which PST when setting up a Partnership and only points to Personal Folders. Making it effectively not compatible with IMAP.

I know I could setup my phone (currently an Orange SPV C500/WM 2003 SE) so it accesses my IMAP mail directly but this requires an Internet connection or Pass-through. Both wouldn't sync the mail automatically to my phone like Synchronisation does.

It seems really stupid to not support IMAP. Am I missing something? Is there any way around this? Thanks

p.s - Checking Google the problem also seems to affect ActiveSync as far as back 2005:

I don't think it's possible sad.gif. Dumb Microsoft have allowed for checking of anything other than "Personal Folders" but due to the way IMAP works it cannot be stored in "Personal Folders" and needs it's own PST file.

It would be so hard if MS allowed you to pick which PST file to use. I've had to configure a separate IMAP account on Smartphone and use Pass-through but of course this isn't Automatic and my phone no longer vibrates when a message comes in sad.gif.

I have Rules set up in Outlook 2007 to sort the IMAP inbox into the same personal folder tree I was using pre-IMAP when I still used pop3. This tree then syncs via ActiveSync from the original pst file.

Alternatively, set up the WM device to go fetch the IMAP mail directly, either via GSM or passthru internet when you connect to ActiveSync.

Hope that helps biggrin.gif

Hi.

That is a good idea actually, accept it won't delete e-mails from Personal Folders, when you delete them from IMAP sad.gif. So they'll start piling up.

I'm currently doing that but it's not automatic. I have to click Send/Receive and despite WM2003SE subscribing to folders you can only download mail in the Inbox sad.gif.
