 external vs internal GPS

Hi, anyone know if there a big difference in accuracy with an internal and external gps?
also will it help with battery drain to use an external one? huh.gif

It depends on what specification that the external GPS but for basic usage, it's good enough. I've used the internal GPS for walking, driving and tracking and it has worked for me.

I prefer to use my internal GPS as it's one device less to carry around with me.

Like most GPS devices out there, it does eat battery, so if you use it in a car, it is recommended that it's powered by car battery via cig's socket.

There is no difference in accuracy in my experience. If your device has internal there is no reason not to use it - although, like Tony says, make sure you have a car charger! But I think it's the fact that the screen is always on that's the biggest drain on the battery so you get that even with an extermnal device.

Most internal and external GPS has an update rate of 1 per second (1Hz), however I've come across this:

Update rates of 5Hz per second, which means it will give you better result if that's what you are looking for.
