Is it possible to prevent the backlight from being turning on when my o2 xda iq is locked, as this would increase battery life while being carried.
It doesnt help when every time the light turns on the phone is overclocked Thanks Pete This post has been edited by BigHobson: Jun 22 2006, 22:21 |

I have been looking for something like this too, I can't help but think that every time I take a few steps the backlight is constantly switching on and off in my pocket.

I just read the following on another site regarding this exact issue on the SDA... Maybe everyone should call?
QUOTE The manufacturer of the SDA said they will not fix the screen lock problem unless they get a lot of complaints because it is costly to fix. T-Mobile has been notified of the problem, but without customers complaining nothing will get done. This is an obvious design flaw and should be fixed before thousands of other phones are put on the market with the same defect. Please cal T-Mobile (800-937-8997) (ask for the customer retention department) and the SDA manufacturere (877-878-7904) to express your desire to have this fixed.

Ha, here's another mention of this problem...
QUOTE T-Mobile has their name on this phone and can't push off the blame. We need to get everyone to call T-Mobile and complain and tell them you will not rest until they fix the screen lock feature on the phone. The direct number of the T-Mobile Officer in charge of this is: Mr. Anthony Rivas, 877-290-6323, ext. 8012. If he gets a lot of calls, maybe they will get the message.

And here is a short conversation claiming of a potential 3rd party work around:
QUOTE I used to have the problem. But after I installed Automatic keylock my screen is not turning on if I press any button. Only when I press the unlock key (Top left), screen turns on and the keypad is unlocked if I press * as well. QUOTE You have it here-http://surrealnetworks.com/mpx/SDAapps.htm autolock, but be sure to chech "screen saver" in general options, that way after the delayed period that you choose the keys will be locked and also the screen will go black at once. Then to unlock use the left soft key as the other keys won't respond! Nice no more battery drainage QUOTE Automatic keylock fixed this big issue on my SDA too. Good app too as I like a auto lockout. Noticed you may have to press the left "start" button a couple of times, but no big deal, well worth it. QUOTE If you look closely, the backlight is still coming on, its just that the screen is black. It seems likely to me that it actually uses more battery due to black requiring ALL pixels to be closed...
There is NO way to turn off the backlight with the keylock on. Its either an HTC issue or Microsoft, but its one that any application writer can fix... Just looking through the registry for anything that may sound like it will help...
Anyone know what this is for??: HKEY_CURRENT_USER > ControlPanel > Power > LockLevel > (Values) > LockLevel I don't feel like messing with it and possibly messing up my phone right now. Maybe later after the weekend. If anyone knows or tries this out, let us know. Also, what are these?: HKEY_CURRENT_USER > ControlPanel > Accessibility > (Values) > CharTimeout, HoldTimeOut, SHBoxTimeout -------------------- - Please help my dear friend Millie if you can. - yoos' myspace! - Current Phone: T-Mobile DASH (Excalibur) - 2 GB Sandisk Micro SD (Transflash) - Cell Point Flamingo bluetooth headset (awesome!) - T-Mobile USA - Old Phones: SDA Music (Tornado) << Audiovox SMT5600 (Typhoon) << Imate Smartphone 2 (Voyager) << Orange SPV Classic (Canary) |

Also, what are these?: HKEY_CURRENT_USER > ControlPanel > Accessibility > (Values) > CharTimeout, HoldTimeOut, SHBoxTimeout AFAIK, that's the registry settings of your Accessibility options in your phone's Settings... -------------------- "Do not follow where the path may lead.
Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." |

The latest ROM on C600 has the backlight timeout at about 2 seconds if the phone is locked. Not a solution but at least it's not as annoying.
If the phones not locked, it lights for considerably a lot longer. Do the xda's have a similar feature? |

I upgraded my T-Mobile SDA (USA) to the newest iMate SP5m ROM and liked that the backlight went off when the keypad was locked. Just downgraded back to the T-Mobile ROM and discovered the light doesn't go off when the keypad is locked. It must be a HTC-thing, and will be solved when the SDA ROM is updated?!
I also noticed that the newer iMate ROM had a registry entry for the keypad backlight time-out setting, but this entry doesn't exist in the T-Mobile ROM. This post has been edited by chaznet: Jul 28 2006, 06:34 |

Is it possible to prevent the backlight from being turning on when my o2 xda iq is locked, as this would increase battery life while being carried. It doesnt help when every time the light turns on the phone is overclocked Thanks Pete I realize that this thread is very very old, but I am digging like crazy for this information. I have found 3 ROMs that don't light up the backlight when the joystick is moved / wiggled / touched. 1 One is the Cingular 1.0.9.0 ROM 2 One is the T-Mobile SDA original ROM 3 The other is a baked ROM from XDA-Developers that is an iPhone look alike. I can't find where to download ROMs 1 & 2 above. Rom 3 is great, but I haven't been able to synch with my work Exchange server with this phone since the flash, something with the registry and the push of the certificate / policy from the Exchange server requiring a simple pin an device lock. For reference, the iPhone rom is in a thread here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread...highlight=vista This post has been edited by Fahtrim: Sep 17 2007, 19:03 |

As an added note to this, the T-Mobile 1.0.14.0 ROM also does not light up the keyboard when keys are locked and you move the joystick and I was able to find it download & install it and get everything working and configured.
It will be the ROM I run unless I run into issues until either a new working WM6 rom has this feature or I hang up the 2125 / Tornado / SDA / Qtek 8300 / I-Mate SP5. I found it here. http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php...ght=htc+sda+rom |
