Kodak Wi Fi 802.11b SD Card
I have just got my new HTC MAgician (T-Mobile Compact II) and while looking for a wifi card to use i have found that Dixons have a Kodak WiFI 802.11b SD card on sale for $10! Having purchased this product i discovered that there are no official PPC drivers for this card :evil: . Having searched this forum i have found discussion of this card and although i have found nothing encouraging as yet i thought it prudent to post here just in case anyone has found drivers that will work with this product. Please post if you have any info or hacked drivers compatible with Windows Mobile 5  Ps: since this card is on sale for only £10 surely its worth someones while to hack up some drivers or perhaps use those of a similar card, an unsrupulous person might make a few bob on ebay...theres a little insentive for those ellite haxors out there :idea: |

They are on dixon's site for £9.87 plus £2.99 delivery. Tried ordering 2 ( max you can buy) but gave up after 10 minutes of their clunky ordering system bombing out....

It is good.....hope we get em working!...in aid of that ill whip out my trusty tool kit and take some photos of the chips 4 u

OK wow that was fiddly! i had to break away some glue but im confident i can reassemble the item with a bit of glue...but heres what i found
 I've noticed that the large M on the chip could possibly be AA but its impossible to say. I've started a search for these details...any help would be appreciated fUNKUS Ps: sorry about the photo quality, the one thing camera phones cant do is a clear close up

WOW thats amazing ill go try out the drivers and software, although the actual case says 802.11b not g...wonder if you misread it or if it does both?
...... ..... It turns out im having trouble locating any drivers for Windows Mobile 5 only those for xp/ 2000/98 or ME, are any of these comaptible with Win Mobile 5? or are mobile drivers very different? This is a link to some code i found for Marvell ppc drivers, its some kind of patch...might reveal something to someone with the right knowledge

Well to be honest its looking unlikely that we will find drivers unless someone knows of another SD wifi card that uses the Libertas chip, then perhaps if the harware is the same the drivers will work......

Lots of people use pocketpc's for war-driving, so there's bound to be someone who's tried it. btw funkus i've heard that the kodak wifi is a rebrand of a spectec card. however no luck following this up. there website seems useless.

hello mate, although it pains me to say this im afraid that this is as up to date as i am!
I havn't ported drivers before and i wouldn't know where to begin, the last time i programmed anything was on my old psion 3c (from the late 80's!).and the Epoc programming they used then has evolved far too much with the development in smart phones for me to help (im not sure if EPOC is still present in mobile 5 but it is still used alot). With regards to the spectec card i have heard similar things and as it happens the spectec card is the cheapest i can find so ive ordered one. Perhaps it will reveal something to me although to be honest i bought it cos i dont expect the kodak wifi to work. i'll try the spectec drivers now just to check  .There are windows drivers available for the kodak card so lets hope someone who has an ability to port these drivers sees the value of these cheap cards. fUNKUS PS: ive not quite given up yet

I tried the Spectec drivers for windows mobile 5 and they dont work on the kodak card im afraid.

btw about this porting business, I have a little knowledge with programming a few years back, maybe this could motivate me to actually produce something.
I do have the feeling that this is far beyond my potential, i'll read up on some stuff and see what I can do. |

well that would be great, the only problem with this card is the software, the hardware is identical to other wifi sd cards, we know this because the Marvell (the chip maker) website says so in their blurb about the uses of this particular chip, its designed origionally for mobile/ppc wifi. It's just that kodak sell them cheap cos they aim them at their software at cameras (which are expensive enough!) and dont make other drivers/utils.
I'm positive that with the right knowledge someone could take the origional marvell chip drivers for xp or 95/98 and port (convert) them for windows mobile 5. For all we know there is an identical card being used by a different company under another name, its just hard to find out what chips each card uses without breaking open alot of hardware hehe. I verry much doubt that marvell made these brilliant chips that use such little power and only sell them to Kodak, it would defy sense! Give it a go mate, it cant hurt. although it can take a while i imagine so anyone keen to get on wifi soon should probably bite the bullet and spend the 50 odd quid on a new one (that works). fUNKUS ps: The links to all relevant info and drivers are posted above (page1) pps: don't worry i'm not gunna stop investigating when my spectec card arrives cos im obsessed with this, especially sice marvell imply that it can use 802.11g....thats 54 mb/s! |
