Hi =)

As many of you probably have seen there are a lot of videos of "hacked" S730's with their built-in GPSes in use arround (for instance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTHO86--VHM )

Strictly legally, modding your phone to use the GPS isnt illegal so I hope this post won't be deleted, though it might void the warranty...

I was just wondering if anyone has tried this? And if so is the GPS worth trying?

Someone told me that HTC might be issuing a ROM upgrade for the 730 featuring WinMo 6.1 and GPS functionality. Interesting hmmm

All depends of course on who that "someone" is. Reactions from Htc support seem to tell the opposite on the Gps functionality.
As you can read in the xda-developers forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361929), it is not yet clearly identified if GPS in the production version is only disabled in the software, or if some hardware component (antenna?) has been left out. The Youtube movie(s) were made with a pre-production sample which appeared to have their GPS functioning. I would love to see it happen but reading through the xda-forum has somewhat left me with little hope.
